"Y/N is sleeping, what are you doing here?" I heard Alexander whisper from the doorway. I tensed at the alarm in his tone but kept still, eyes shut.

"You're gonna lose a good business deal because of her," A female voice warned and I felt my blood boil. Maria Reynolds.

I heard Alexander sigh before responding, "The answer was no anyways. Now if anyone else knows our location, please tell me now." Something in me eased at his defiance to her. "No one knows but us." A man replied. Mr.Reynolds too?

"Then I wish you farewell. Goodbye." The door clicked shut and I heard Alexander walk back to the bed, the mattress groaning as he laid back down beside me.

I slowly opened my eyes and feigned a yawn. "Good morning," Alexander said under his breath, his violet eyes meeting mine. He looked so...domestic. This was the calmest, best morning either of us have shared together.

"Good morning," I echoed, sitting up so I was eye level with him.

I thought about what was to be done today but nothing came to mind. Daily life hadn't been this boring in months...since the day I heard from Princeton.

God above in Heaven, I forgot about Princeton. All of that seemed so far away but it was barely months gone.

"Whats wrong?" Alexander asked, getting out of bed to start his day. I shrugged and sat up further. "Just thinking about how the past few months seem like years. I mean, I've done more than most in such little time!"

Alexander huffed a laugh as he slung his coat on, buttoning it up. "Indeed you have, and now you deserve to settle down, have a life," He said softly.

I shrugged and got out of bed as well, grabbing my brush and running it through my h/c hair.

"Do you think they'll find us? If C/N will tell them somehow." Saying his name felt...strange. Especially when I still wasn't sure just how innocent he was.

Alexander stiffened but shook his head. "I don't think we'll be disturbed here. What do you plan to do today?" I noticed the change of subject and decided to go along with it.

"I don't know, I might go to a shop, maybe visit Martha Laurens," I said the last part quietly and he faltered as he put his boots on.

He gave a simple nod before heading out, leaving with a quick and quiet "See you tonight."

I sighed and finished getting dressed, choosing a simple yet vibrant red dress. No finery, no excess details on the skirts. I didn't want to be noticed.

I left the room and immediately headed for the Laurens' house.

I made it there with ease and undisturbed. I knocked a few times before Martha opened it, her soft smile growing instantly. "Y/N! Good to see you! Come in, come in!"

I did a small curtsey and walked into the house, shrugging off my over coat.

"How are you? It feels like it's been ages!" She said, sitting on the couch. I sighed and sat across from her, shrugging. "I've been good, me and Alexander are good. How are things with you and John? How's the pregnancy?"

Her smile immediately diverted to her stomach as a hand drifted over the still-flat surface. "Everything's been perfect. I think I'm having a little girl, I've been beyond sick from this! It happens whenever anyone has a girl, did you know?"

I shook my head in light disbelief. "I did not! Does John think it'll be a girl as well?" Her smile faltered for a moment before shaking her head, looking away from her stomach.

"He really wants a little boy. I think he'd be a great dad to a little girl, but he disagrees."

I frowned slightly and she shrugged, looking at me again. "Have you heard from the military about Captain Hamilton? We've received notice yesterday about John, he's due to leave in a week." I could almost feel the sadness in her tone.

"Not yet but if John was sent one, Alexander will, too. We'll keep each other company!" I said in the best tone possible and she grinned. "I'd like that. You're a good friend, Y/N. I hope you don't mind me calling you a friend even if we've hardly met."

I shook my head and she smiled brighter. "You are my friend, Martha, and I will gladly be yours!"

"Just wonderful! We should go into town together! Buy some skirts and sweets!" I gave her a small smile, knowing full well of my empty pockets. But I'd tag along.

"Let's go!" I said as cheerily as I could, standing with her. She seemed so happy to have a female friend that it made me realize that I too missed having female friends.
