The door slammed and locked behind me before someone knelt beside me. Warm, gentle arms wrapped around me as I sobbed.

"Shhh, you're safe." I heard Martha coo. Someone pounded on the door and I flinched, shaking my head. "He's gonna kill me." I rasped. I blinked up and saw Laurens holding his musket, aiming it to the door.

I sniffled and wiped my tears. "C-Can I get some w-water?" I managed out, getting to me feet. "Of course!" Martha said, rushing to the kitchen.

The pounding sounded again and I let out a cry.

"Get away! I'm armed and in the military! Disturb us again and I will shoot!" John warned. I hugged my arms around myself and shuddered.

"I met him when I escaped C/N. The woman that took me in, Amanda? That's her former fiancé who threatened her. I held a knife to his throat and now he's pissed."

Martha stiffened at the last word. "Sorry, Martha." I mumbled. I stumbled over to the couch and slumped into it.

Laurens and Martha sat in either side of me and I shakily took the water offered. I immediately drained the glass. "Y/N, I'm sorry if this seems invasive but why so shaken? You've dealt with torture itself and wanted to sail a ship."

I looked at Laurens, eyes half shut. "Brought memories of my first time I dealt with violence."

He stayed silent and I knew he wanted more information. I glanced to his wife and he inhaled deeply. "What memories are...sensitive topics." I explained. I looked back to Laurens and merely said, "Eldara."

He gave a quiet gasp and I nodded. "Not the same person, but same intentions."

He dipped his head in understanding. "Alexander is still at the inn. I needed some air so I went for a walk, like I used to in Albany."

There was a soft knock and I tensed. "I said leave!" Laurens shouted, heading for the door. "John! It's Alex, Y/N is missing!"

Laurens looked to me and I nodded. Slowly, he opened the door and Alexander burst in, grabbing his best friend frantically. "John! She's gone! I don't know where or why but-" I cleared my throat and he looked to me. "Y/N?!"

He let go of Laurens and scanned me for injuries, his eyes connecting with my red, puffy ones. "Oh God above, what happened?!"

Laurens explained the whole thing as I sat there in Alexander's comforting arms.

When he finished, Alexander muttered, "I'll get the bastard." To himself or to me, I had no clue. "Yeah and I'll help." Laurens chimed. "John!" Martha snapped.

"Martha, Y/N is like a sister to me! Imagine if your cousins got hurt!" She quieted down and gave a single nod.

I cracked a small smile and they all looked to me. "What?" Alexander asked, confused.

I let out a breathy laugh. "I have two brothers named John now." I said with a slightly bigger grin. They all let out relieved laughs.

I slowly stood and they all tensed. "Relax, guys. Thank you for the concern, it helps me. Truly."

They all forcefully relaxed and I stood, all too aware of every scar on my body, especially the one I gained from the Eldara event that I refused to acknowledge.

It was a burn mark on my ankle. Only I and the nurses know of it. I had them swear not to tell father or mother.

It was roughly the size of my palm and a lighter, reddish shade of my skin. I refused to acknowledge it because then I knew it would affect me, which I could not afford.

I flexed my legs and unflexed, getting myself ready to head back outside.

"I don't want to invade, I should head back to the inn." I said, setting the cup down. "Stay as long as you need." Martha offered. I dismissed the sentiment. "I have Alexander to walk me back."

Alexander puffed his chest instinctively and I giggled. "Goodnight and thank you, truly. We all know where I'd be if you didn't save me."

They got quiet and I frowned. I didn't mean for it to turn dark.

Alexander cleared his throat and I looked at him. "Ready?" He asked, resting a hand on the small dagger he brought. I nodded and linked arms with him.

We went to the door and I looked at Martha and Laurens. "Thank you."
