Chapter 57

NOW PLAYING AS ISAAC

I make my way into the hotel bar.

(This is such a bad idea.... I really don't want to see her or listen to anything she has to say but Tessa is right. She needs to be told to stay the hell out of our lives.)

I spot her sitting at a table and I immediately stiffen at the sight of her. I never thought it was possible to despise someone who you once loved with all your heart. I would have given her everything.... But she threw it all away and I thank the Lord everyday that she did, otherwise I wouldn't have met the real love of my life.

She finally spots me and waves me over pulling me from my thoughts.

I take a deep breath and make my way over. She quickly stands up and comes around to give me a hug but I stop her and take a seat.

"Isaac, hi...."

"Diane."

"How are you? You look really well."

"Diane, cut the small talk.... What do you want?"

She stares back at me a little dejected as she fiddles with her fingers on the table.

"It's about Leo...."

I scrunch my eyebrows together in confusion.

"Who is Leo?"

"Oh.... Sorry I never told you his name.... Our son. His name is Leo."

I feel a pang of pain in my gut from the mention of my son..... I have tried to put it out of my head ever since the first time she told me but its impossible.

"What about him?"

"His adoptive parents...... They're dead."

"What?"

"I know, I was shocked when I heard it first. It was terrible. They died in a car crash. They were gone out for dinner, they had a babysitter watching Leo so thankfully he's safe."

"Well that's terrible..... But.... I'm confused, why are you telling me this?"

"Well that's the thing, they had no will or any guardians appointed to take Leo in the event of something happening to them. He's going to have to go into Foster care.... Unless....."

"Unless what?"

"I can't get him back Isaac..... And I really want to but I can't. I legally signed my rights away..... But you... You could get him, all you have to do is tell them the truth, you didn't know or agree to the adoption in the first place.... You could get our son back."

My eyes widen upon hearing Diane's words.

"Are you kidding me right now?"

"Please Isaac, think about it. Do you really want our son to be fostered around from home to home, not ever having a proper family? You are his father..... You have to understand, I can't do anything. I feel so helpless."

I look across to Diane and see the tears fill her eyes and I know the normal reaction should be compassion but I can't feel anything other than hatred and bitterness for this women. This is all her fault.

"Why do you really want me to try to get custody of him? Do you think if I got custody of him that I'd let you see him? That we would be a family? That's never going to happen Diane. I have my family. I have the most beautiful, loving and caring wife any man could ever dream of. I have two beautiful healthy children. I'm happy. There will never be anything between you and I ever again."

"So you're just going to turn your back on your own flesh and blood?. Let me guess this is Tessa's doing. She's jealous and afraid that if you have anything to do with Leo her kids will miss out."
