When Blaine stands in front of Monicas house the next morning he straightens his clothes once more before knocking at the door. He again didn't slept that good but the first thing he'll do at brunch is drink a coffee. Or probably more.
"Good morning Blaine" Monica greets when she opens the door. "Good morning Monica" Blaine greets bck and steps in after the woman hugged him. "I brought jam. I don't know if you like it but Carol, Kurts step-mom, made it herself and it's delicious" he says, giving Monica the glas.
"We love jam. Thank you" the woman says with a smile "Now follow me to the kitchen. My daughter and husband should comedown any moment".
Blaine follows her into the kitchen where an 8 year old boy jumps up from his chair to hug Blaine "Blaiiiiiiiiiiiine!!". "Hey buddy" Blaine says laughing "How are you?". "Good. Are you coming to brunch more often now?" the boy asks.
"If your mom invites me again sure" Blaine answers, looking over to Monica who smiles at them. "No Josh sit down again and I go looking wherethe other two are. Blaine sit down wherever you want" she then says and Josh says "Next to me! Blaine sit next to me". "Okay" the curly haired man says laughing.
Short after Blaine sat down he hears footsteps and with Monica two other people enter the kitchen. One of them a man in Monicas age, maybe a bit older and a girl that Blaine would guess is about 12 years old. Monicas husband and her daughter.
"Ah you must be Blaine" the man says, extending his hand for Blaine to shake. Blaine stands up and shakes the extended hand "Ys sir. Thanks for haing me". "Oh please call me Chandler. Sir sounds way to formal" the man laughs, sitting downon his seat.
"Abby please put your phone away and say hello to our guest" Monica says to her daughter. With an eye roll the girl puts her phone away. Then she looks up to the guest, a smile forming on her lips when she says "Hii". "Hey" Blaine greets back and takes his mug that Monica already filled with coffee.
And just like that everyone starts eating and chatting happily. Blaine could even forget about the fight with Kurt for a moment. Instead a new worry creeps up in him because based on the body language Blaine could swear that Abby likes him or something.
After the brunch Blaine says goodbye and goes home. Normally he'd do something with Kurt, text him, call him but that's still not an option so at first he just watches tv before he eds up boxing. Again.
Kurt spend the day with his family, packing and preparing for Nationals. He does miss Blaine but he's not giving in. He'll go to New York and he'll prove everyone who thought like Blaine that he couldn't do it that he actually can do it.
But still he can't fall asleep that night, worrying about Nationals. Maybe deep down he worries about getting into a plane but he's to stubborn to admit that so he's just going to pretend that it's about Nationals.
The kids worked so hard and Kurt knows how disappointed they would be if they don't win. Kurt knows how that feels. He've been there.
By now it's 1am and he can't find any rest, laying awake on his bed and starring at the ceiling. But then he remembers something. A voice i his head, an old memory telling him "Even when we fight you can always call me if you need someone". Kurt knows exactly who that voice belongs to.
That's why he takes his phone, dialing the number almost blindly an waiting for the person to pick up. Hoping that they'll pick up.
"Hello?" he hears a sleepy voice and lets out a relieved sigh "Hey". "Kurt. Hi. Are you okay?" in an instand the voice sounds more awake but Kurt answers "Yeah. Just nervous". "Wait" he hears, then some shifting and then "Do you wanna talk about it?".
"You said that it doesn't matter i we fight and I can call you if I need someone" Kurt says and the voice answers "And I meant it. What's up?" "I'm worried about the kids. I know how disappointing it is when you lose after so much work and they worked so hard" Kurt tells.
"I'm sure they will rock it anyway. And most importantly they have fun okay?" Kurt listens closely and then nods "Thanks Blaine". "Anytime" Blaine answers smiling. Yes they didn't made up and they still have to talk about the fight but at least they are talking again.
"Is everything else alright?" Blaine asks, concern swinging in his voice. "Yes Blaine I'm alright. I'll get into the plane tomorrow morning and hope that the kids win. I was just nervous because I don't want them to get disappointed" Kurt says ad Blaine nods "Yeah. Disappointed".
"Can we just talk when I come home on Wednesday? I need to sleep but I couldn't fall asleep" Kurt says. He don't want to talk about the disappointment that Blaine means because then he'd get annoyed again.
"Can you sleep now or still not?" Blaine asks and the other man answers "No. I don't think so". "Okay" Blaine says and again Burt ears him shift before he hears Blaine humming the melody of twinkle twinkle little star like he didn't had to dofor quite a while.
Kurt smiles at that and closes his eyes, cuddling into his comforter a bit more. Even when Blaine and he are fighting but Blaine still is there for him and that even tho Kurt didn't talked to him all weekend and basically ignored him.
