Lifeline

Part 52

Time passes by and the summer comes closer. In about one month and a half the summer holidays start and Kurt already knows how to spend them.

Working on the intern report, spending time with his family and as soon as Blaine can take a few days off they're going away. They don't know where yet but they do know that it'll be just them. A few days just for them.

Today is a busy day for Blaine. The whole week was busy already but today seems to be really busy. At least he has only today and tomorrow and then the weekend. Also today after work Kurt comes over and Blaine can forget the stress.

"Blaine go and take your break. We have a few quiet minutes at the moment" Monica says after noticing that Blaine didn't took his break yet and it's late noon already. "Okay. Thanks" the young nurse answers and goes down to the cateteria.

Finally he has time for a coffee and something to eat. Meggy was already waiting for him to come and wanting a coffee. He'll always be her favorite coffee addict.

When Blaine comes he sits down, takes a sip from his coffee and waits until his food is warmed up again. Usually he always comes at the same time so his food is warm when he comes but since he came a lot later his food is already cold again.

While he waits he takes his phone and writes Kurt a message that he's looking forward to a cozy evening with him tonight.

But the message doesn't arrive. Hm. Strange. But Blaine can't think longer about it when Meggy brings him his now warmed up lunch.

Blaine thanks Meggy for putting in the effort to warm the food up extra for him. Then he hungrily takes a bite from his lunch. One bite and one bite only then his phone rings. His work phone. Really? He just started his break.

"Hello?" he answers the phone and hears Monicas rushed voice "Okay Blaine don't freak out now but there's a fire at McKinley and three ambulances are already on their way, maybe more in the next minutes. We need you for some of the emergency patients. Sorry for your break".

Then she ends the call, leaving Blaine in shock. Fire. At McKinley. Kurt.

Once again Blaine takes his phone calling Kurt but it goes straigt to the mailbox.

The young nurse stands up, leaving coffee an almost untouched lunch behind to go to the emergeny room where they need him. On his way there he dials Kurts number again.

Again it goes  straight to the mailbox. "Kurt. I'm worried about you. There's a fire at McKinley and I know that you're there at the moment. Are you alright? Are you hurt? Why is your phone off?" he says, trying to not sound panicked but failing terribly.

Blaine looks though the crowd, hi boyfriend nowhere to see. Just as Blaine wants to call him again he gets called to one of the emergency rooms where they needs his support. Looks like a student but luckily not one of the glee kids.

The afternoon is packed with patients from McKinley, taking care of th other patients in btween and helping with dinner before his shift finally ends and Blaine can go home.

When the youg nurse finally gets off work he's exhausted and hungry. He didn't had time to call his boyfriend again again before he went to get changed and even tho Kurt wasn't one of the patients Blaine still can't reach him on his phone while he's getting changed.

The plan was that Kurt picks him up from work but Blaine, overthinking everything like so often, is still worried that Kurt won't be there. Won't sit in the cafeteria and wait for him because once again he's late.

His heart beats fast as he goes down to the cafeteria and Blaine could swear it stopped beating for a second when he sees Kurt. He sits with his back to Blaine and didn't noticed him yet but he's here and Blaine feels a weight falling off his shoulders.
