"Ms. Valdez?" the doctor says as she walks in.

"yes?" I answer, nervously.

"I have some good news and some bad news. which would you like first?" she asks me.

"umm.. I guess the bad news?" I answer hesitantly.

"okay. the bad news is that your ankle is hurt, as you know, but it is only a mild sprain." she tells me, my heart sinking, worried about sports.

"okay. roughly how long will I be out of sports?" I ask her.

"by this time next week, you should be good. stay on your crutches until next Wednesday and Thursday see how your ankle feels. if it hurts, use your crutches, if not you can go back to your sports and gym. I will give you a note to stay out of all physical activity until Wednesday. you can decide if you want to go back then." she tells me and I start to relax. I won't be out for long. good.

"okay. thank you." I say and she nods and starts to leave.

"the nurse will be in to get your crutches and air cast." she says shutting the door. I let a huge breath out.

"so is that good or bad?" Jack asks me, walking over to the exam table.

"it's bad, but a lot better than it could've been." I say and he hops up next to me.

"do you want to know another good part?" Jack says scooting a little closer to me.

"what?" I say smiling, turning my head so I can face him.

"since your ankles hurt, you have to rest. so that means that we can spend all weekend together." Jack says smiling back at me.

"but I'm going shopping tomorrow with Anna and Amy." I tell him.

"okay, then Sunday and when you're home tomorrow." he tells me.

"that sounds good." I say biting my lip and leaning in to kiss him. just as our lips touch, the nurse knocks.

Jack and me pull away quickly and he ends up falling trying to get to his seat. I start laughing and so does he.

the nurse opens the door to see Jack sitting on the floor and me hunched over, both laughing our asses off.

she just ignores it and walks over to me, avoiding Jack in the small room.

"how's the pain?" she asks me.

"it's not very bad, but it still hurts." I tell her.

"okay, here." she says handing me a Tylenol, "you can take these as much as needed, but make sure you wait the suggested time between pills. can you put your leg up?" I put my leg up and she puts an air cast on my ankle.

"if this starts to deflate, here's a pump and do you know roughly how tall you are?"

"I'm 5'6." I tell her.

she opens the door and comes back in before the door has a chance to shut with a pair of adjustable crutches.

"you can stay for a little longer, just check out when you're done." she says leaning the crutches up against the exam table close to me.

she walks out without saying another word. I look at Jack who made his way back to the chair. we both start laughing again.

"can you help me get my crutches?" I ask Jack once we stop laughing.

"you see," he says standing up, walking towards me, "I honestly don't believe that you'll need those crutches right now."

"what?" I asked confused.

"well, who needs crutches when," he says picking me up, "you have me to carry you."

"Jack!" I yell laughing.

"Jess!" he yells mocking me.

"what about my crutches?" I giggle.

"I'll carry them too." we end up readjusting before we leave.

he's giving me a piggy back ride and I'm carrying my crutches across his chest. people stare at us in the waiting room while we check out.

"is there a parent or guardian with you?" the man checking us out asks.

"no, but I am 18 years old. so do I have to?" I ask, getting nervous.

"do you have any form of ID?" he asks me.

"yeah." I say, "Jack, can you help me get down?"

it's a little difficult, but I end up getting down and handing him my drivers license. he puts it through a scanner and gives it back to me.

"do you have insurance?"

"yes." I say, giving him my insurance card.

"okay. you are free to go. if anything goes wrong, feel free to come back." he says and we walk out.

"back to school?" I ask Jack as we sit in his car.

"are you feeling up to it?" he asks me.

"not really, but we ditched yesterday, so I probably should." I explain.

"how about we go and get some food and then go back after lunch?" he suggests.

"sounds good." I say and lean over the center console to kiss him.

the kiss lasts a little longer than it should, us being in a parking lot and all, but I don't care.

"ready?" Jack asks me.

"ready." I tell him and we drive off.
