The New Boy

mom

I wake up in the morning to my alarm going off.

"ugh." I groan rolling off of my bed. I hop in the shower and brush my teeth. I come out to check my phone because I didn't check it when I woke up. I see that I have a message from Jack.

Jack: hey babe. I'm sorry that I totally forgot to give you my number. I'll give it to you when I pick you up for school at 7:50?

I message him back.

Jess: you should probably come a little earlier. my mom will definitely want to talk to you. I'll go see if she's here.

I hit send and go to my door.

"mom?!" I yell. I wait a few seconds for a response.

"yeah honey?" my mom yells from downstairs.

"when are you leaving?" I yell back.

"8:30. why?" she asks.

"Jack is picking me up for school." I tell her.

"okay honey. I'll talk to him when he comes."

"okay mom. are you making anything for breakfast?" I ask her.

"I can make pancakes if you want." she yells.

"okay. I'll only have one though." I tell her.

"okay honey." she says and I go back into my room to see that Jack replied.

Jack: okay babe. I'll be there at 7:40.

Jess: okay. I'll be ready.

I set my phone down and go pick out an outfit that my mom bought yesterday.

I put on a cropped gray sweater, a dark red skirt, socks that are the same gray color as my sweater and dark red combat boots.

I put my hair in a braid and blow dry it so that its wavy. I leave it in a braid as I put my makeup on. when I'm done I blow dry it again and take it out of the braid. I end up putting it half up with a gray bow. I look at my phone. it's 7:15. I go downstairs to eat.

"hey mom." I say going down the stairs.

"hey honey. you look cute." she says smiling at me.

"thanks mom." I say.

"I made your plate. I put two pancakes on it because they're small, but I put strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and cherries on it. with a little whipped topping." my mom says.

"you know me so well." I laugh.

"I always have." my mom says as I sit down. I eat my pancakes. when I finish its 7:30.

"I'm going to go do some last minute touch ups. can you watch the gates for Jack?" I ask my mom while I clean off my plate.

"yes. of course honey." my mom replies.

I go upstairs. I brush my teeth again, not wanting my breath to smell.

"shit." I say realizing that I forgot to accessorize.

I put on diamond earrings and apply some lip gloss. I look in the mirror before realizing that I forgot to put on my grandmas necklace.

I wear it everyday. it's just a small white gold chain with a garnet gem, both of ours birthstones, (January). I put it on and look at my phone. it's 7:38.

I go and check our cameras and see Jack pulling up. I open the gates and head downstairs.

"mom. Jack is here. don't embarrass me." I say.
