chapter 16

"Gavin came home and I was so excited because I love him, but then dad showed up too and I love him too and as soon as I mentioned that Gavin was home, he ran out of my room to go see him. he only cares about Gavin. he's all anyone cares about. I constantly get compared to him and I just don't want to deal with it anymore. I used to be depressed and cut because of it. they're toxic together and when they saw my scars, it looked like they have seen a monster. I couldn't take it and Jack and I came here and I was scared to meet you because I thought you would think I was a monster too." I say through my sobs.

"oh honey. it'll be okay. you're welcome here for as long as you want." Jacks mom says hugging me.

"thank you." I say starting to calm down.

"I know what you need." she says.

"what?" I ask sniffing.

"you need some comfort food. how does some ice cream sound?" she asks me. I smile a little bit.

"what kind?" I ask.

"I know what kind she wants." Jacks says standing up.

"I'll be right back." he gives me a quick kiss before running out of the room.

"I know exactly what he's getting you." Jacks mom says.

"what?" I ask.

"can't say. you'll figure out." she says and we both laugh a little.

"I'm sorry. this is the first time that we met and I shouldn't have-" I say, but Jacks mom cuts me off.

"it's okay. I'm glad that you did because I don't want you to be afraid or nervous to see me. and by the way, you are absolutely gorgeous and I already like you more than any of Jacks ex's." she says smiling at me.

"thank you." I say smiling and Jack walks in.

"that was quick." Jacks mom says.

"well I knew exactly what I was getting." he says walking towards me. Jacks mom gets up.

"well, I'll leave you two alone. it was nice to meet you Jess." she says before shutting the door.

"here's yours." Jack says handing me a bowl overflowing with ice cream and whipped cream.

"what all is in it?" I ask.

"vanilla ice cream, cookie dough bits, strawberries, caramel and a ton of whipped cream." he says smiling at me.

"I see the whipped cream." I say laughing.

"it's the best part. well actually, I think this is the best part." he says trailing off and leaning in to kiss me. I gently kiss him back and I giggle a little. Jack pulls away about an inch.

"what?" he asks laughing a little too. I put some of the whipped cream on my finger and make sure Jack doesn't see.

"nothing. it's just.." I say turning my head a little.

"what? is everything okay?" he asks worried.

"yeah. except one little thing." I say trying to sound nervous.

"what is it? you can tell me." he says worried still.

"you have whipped cream on your nose." I say laughing a little.

"I do? where?" he asks me.

"right there." I say putting the whipped cream on his nose.

"hey!" he says laughing.

"I wasn't lying!" I laugh. he sticks his tongue out at me and wipes off the whipped cream.

we eat the ice cream and talk for the rest of the night. I end up falling asleep at 10:00. my alarm goes off on my phone at 6:00.
