Alone

The sound of a door closing could mean so many things. It could mean a loved one returning home, a loved one leaving, the end of a conversation, or someone just forgot to close the door earlier. But this time, when Dahyun hears Momo close the front door, it only means one thing.

It means that they are alone. Alone in their brand new apartment. Finally alone, in their own space, living together for the first time. No more roommates making noise in the kitchen, no more people arguing over stupid things, no more waiting in line to use the bathroom. Just Dahyun and Momo, entering the next step of their relationship.

They had been entertaining their friends for a few hours. Dahyun demanded a house tour that quickly turned into Jeongyeon throwing a small housewarming party. As Momo's former roommate, Jeongyeon felt it was her responsibility to give Momo a proper send-off.

Despite Momo's worries that Jeongyeon would create a disaster in their brand new apartment before Dahyun and her could even enjoy it, that wasn't the case. Instead, it was quiet and intimate, just celebrating the apartment and their future. They all found it nice and refreshing.

But as the evening wore on, Momo couldn't help but feel a little antsy. She let Dahyun pour her a second glass of wine. She was far from tipsy, but Jeongyeon had gone all out for the party, actually buying wine that was more than twenty-thousand won, so Momo felt she should appreciate it. It was worth the money, she'd have to ask Jeongyeon later about where she got it from.

As Dahyun poured the glass, Momo shot her a look. She hoped that Dahyun would understand what it meant. I want them all to leave. I want to be with you.

Initially, she wasn't sure if Dahyun got the hint, but not thirty minutes later, Tzuyu was shuffling out the door with Sana in tow, followed closely by Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Nayeon, and finally, Chaeyoung and Mina. They bid all their friends goodbye, thanking them for the lovely evening and their well wishes. Dahyun's heart was full to bursting between the love from their friends and her love for Momo, it was almost too much to handle.

The door clicks shut behind Tzuyu and then there's silence. Just Dahyun and Momo, no one else.

Dahyun wishes to jump into Momo's arms and spin together until they're both about to throw up from dizziness. Or to start making out right there, by the front door. Or to fail at containing themselves and going at it on the living room couch, not caring about the mess or who will have to sit there in the future.

Movies always do stuff like that, don't they? Two people so impatient and horny for each other that they jump each other's bones the second they can? Then there is the romantic music in the background and all the other cliché stuff. But it isn't like that for Dahyun and Momo.

Movies need drama. They need action to catch the viewer's eye. Everything is heightened in a way that real life could never truly be. Dahyun and Momo are not the dramatic type. Maybe individually yes, but together no. So yeah, Dahyun doesn't care if her actions don't appeal to the audiences at home. There is no audience, that is the whole point. Just Momo. And Dahyun isn't worried about winning her over.

Besides, when Momo walks closer, when she kisses Dahyun on the cheek, when she takes her hand to lead her to their bedroom, Dahyun hears the music swell in her head. She feels the butterflies flutter in her stomach and she knows that their love story is one for the ages. She still has a half-finished glass of wine in her other hand, but she quickly downs it as they pass the kitchen, leaving the glass behind as Momo leads the way to their room.

The bed is assembled, all the pillows and blankets in place, but there are still boxes littering the floor, still clothes to be put away, still decor to be hung. It is far from complete, but Dahyun doesn't mind. She could step over boxes for one more night if that means a little more time with Momo all to herself.
