A Bad Day

Dahyun jumps in her spot when the front door opens and slams shut. She gets up from the couch and watches Momo mumble to herself as she throws the keys on the cabinet in the hallway. Momo then passes the living room with strong steps, no greeting, no hug. Dahyun is obviously worried and decides to follow her.

Momo enters the bedroom and Dahyun stops at the doorway, her gaze on Momo, who sits down on the edge of the bed with her hands on her face and her elbows resting on her knees. Dahyun calmly approaches the girl, thinking of how to comfort her.

"Honey, are you okay?" Dahyun eventually asks quietly, making Momo laugh ironically before raising head. Her face is red, but Dahyun can't tell if it's from anger or from crying.

"What do you think?"

Dahyun's eyes widen a little at the stiffness in Momo's voice that would normally be sweet and calm.

"Don't be an idiot. Obviously I'm not okay."

Dahyun's eyebrows raise at the words that come out of Momo's mouth. She is speechless and shocked by how aggressive the girl is being. Momo rolls her eyes at the expression on Dahyun's face before getting up and going to the closet.

"I was just trying to help you. You don't need to take your anger out on me," Dahyun says with the same calmness as before, following behind the girl, who mumbles something again. "You can talk to me, you know that."

"Oh my god, Dahyun! Just leave me alone, okay?" Momo yells at her, startling her and making her take a step back. "Stop wanting to help all the time! Leave me alone for once!"

Dahyun feels her throat close. Her breathing becomes deep and heavy and she feels a burning sensation in her eyes. Momo has her fists clenched as she waits for the girl to say something. A few silent seconds later, she spots the first tears glide down Dahyun's cheek.

"Look, I'm sorry—" Momo takes a step forward, but Dahyun steps back. She can tell that Dahyun isn't feeling safe right now by the way she picks at her nails, by the way her eyebrows are furrowed.

"No, I'm sorry. I didn't want to disturb you." Dahyun's lips tremble, almost letting out a sob. "I'll be in the guest room if you need me. I will leave you alone, I'm sorry."

Walking out of the room and towards the other, Dahyun is holding back the sobs that are trying to escape her throat. She normally doesn't cry in front of anyone, let alone Momo, but when Momo shot those words at her, she couldn't help it.

Once she enters the guest room and locks the door, the heavy air she was holding in her lungs finally releases along with the tears trapped in the corners of her eyes. Momo had never yelled at her or made her feel the way she feels now, so the pain feels so unbearable.

Dahyun lets herself fall onto the bed. Her body comes together like as if she is giving herself a hug. Her left hand is placed over her mouth to muffle the sound of her crying. It would bother Momo's bad day even more. Her eyes get so tired and red so fast, she doesn't remember the last time she cried this much.

Long hours after, when darkness arrives, Dahyun thinks about not leaving the room and just sleeping there. But despite everything that happened, she longs to talk to Momo again, to apologize again or perhaps to receive an apology so they can sort things out. So, she takes a deep breath and steps out of the room.

She walks down the hallway and sees that none of the lights are turned on. That could only mean that Momo is sleeping. Dahyun walks to the bedroom and turns the hallway light on to check if Momo is in bed.

Momo is already asleep, partly hidden under the covers. Dahyun goes to her side of the bed with slow and steady steps as to not wake her up. She crawls in and lies down, facing away from Momo. When she adjusts the cover over her body, Momo awakens. She notices Dahyun's presence.
