"Dahyuni, don't lie down, the grass is all wet!" Momo's worried words clearly do not reach Dahyun's ears, as she lets herself fall onto the damp grass with a thump. "You're gonna catch a cold!"
They are on a field that is covered with wildflowers and freshly mowed grass. Away from any city lights, the area is only illuminated by the small moon and stars. The humidity of this april night is high and the short grass is not so nice to sit on, but some wetness clearly does not scare off Dahyun by how she is spread out on the ground.
Dahyun looks at Momo and smiles. "Come on, it's not that bad." She extends her hand to Momo, urging her to join. "And if I do catch a cold, I would be in good hands anyway."
Momo huffs, though she can't hold back a smile. She takes Dahyun's hand and sits cross-legged next to her. She groans at the feeling of her pants getting wet, but it's too cold to take off her jacket and sit on it, so she needs to bear with the uncomfortable sensation just for this once.
A cold wind blows Momo's bangs into her eyes, making her sigh and frantically try to fix her hair. But she does that with only one hand, because the other is still holding Dahyun's. So, when she shivers, Dahyun feels it. Dahyun looks up at her and their eyes meet.
Despite the uncomfortable grass and her hair blocking her view, Momo smiles. She's still happy to be here, next to Dahyun under the moonlight, holding hands. Dahyun takes advantage of their position and pulls Momo down, finally making her lay down.
They look up at the stars.
They are truly beautiful. Small dots glowing on the dark background of the night sky. Since there is a very thin crescent moon tonight, the stars take all the spotlight.
Dahyun lifts their hands up, the subtle light shining on their fingers that are joined in a tight embrace. Momo switches her gaze between the stars and their hands for some time, not being able to decide which one is prettier. Then, she pulls their hands down and turns to her side, Dahyun following suit. With her other hand, Momo gently tucks a loose strand of Dahyun's hair behind her ear and then caresses her cheek.
The whistling of the wind becomes quieter as Momo's hand travel further, now by Dahyun's neck. She gently pulls her closer. When they are close enough, Momo gently brings her lips to Dahyun's. The kiss is full of emotion and although it doesn't last long, right after they break apart, Dahyun gives Momo a small kiss on the corner of her mouth, which makes her blush even more.
Their faces stay relatively close to each other after that. Even though there is no real need for words between them, Dahyun wants to speak anyway. "I love you so much," she says with a serious tone, almost like an exclamation.
The words fall from her lips even though she already knows what reply she will get. She says it every day, but if Momo was to ever think that Dahyun doesn't love her, Dahyun is ready to repeat the same phrase for the rest of her life.
"Me too. I love you so much," Momo smiles, her eyes completely squinting. It's a lovely smile that makes Dahyun melt no matter how many times she has already seen it.
Dahyun pulls her closer by the waist and makes their bodies touch, nuzzling her head into the girl's neck. Following that movement, Momo hugs Dahyun and slides one hand under her shirt to scratch her back. That makes Dahyun chuckle, since Momo always remembers what she likes and tries to do it no matter where or when.
And so, the pair lay on the scrunched wet grass, their bodies close and sharing each other's warmth under the starry sky. Summer nights are the best, they aren't extremely hot, but warm enough to lay on a grassy field at night without getting cold. The flowers are fully bloomed and the fruits ripe and sweet. But all in all, the best thing that these nights have to offer are the fireflies that can be seen basically everywhere during late hours. Well, maybe that is the best thing only for some people.
