We were heading down town after the meeting into the bunker where we kept the entire government tech that wasn’t up for sale. I had done a lot of stuff since the apocalypse had happened. My team of scavengers were always finding new things. My heart was thumping and I was getting one of those vibes. Grr get out of my head! Not right now, vibes, seriously! I just had a sinking feeling that something wasn’t right; that we didn’t know everything. I shook my blonde mess of hair out of my face. It needed brushed but we didn’t have time for that. I zoomed down the streets on my four wheeler with my best men following behind me on there motorcycles. I like four wheelers much better. They had more support and strength. There motorcycles had the big wheels in the front and back with the slender sleek black chrome body. The handle bars were sleek with a nice rubber grip and had the identical holographic shields that projected out to work as a windshield or closed in space to block out rain or any other type of weathering.
I paid my attention back to the road. I was so surprised of these sudden events. I had briefly thought about what to do about the world, and had plans for my bounty hunters to attack after we found more survivors. I guess they happened first and are more useful. We had only 7,058 people here. It was equivalent to the small town Elijah and I grew up in. I assumed there were probably about 30,000 actual survivors and the rest were Outcomes or in the Rehabilitation Camps. I slung my four wheeler sideways behind the police headquarters. “Bunker System operate. Code black. All items down under now.” I spoke clearly through my holographic shield over my Four Wheeler. A message from the smart computer appeared on my holographic screen.
“Are you sure? It is not midnight yet. Undergrounding does not begin until midnight.” It read.
“I’m sure.” I repeated loudly. The ground began to shake around me and I steadied my body onto the black leather seat of the four wheeler. The ground indented into itself revealing a steady clean slated ramp which I took of down faster than a German speed highway. I heard all the motors roaring behind me down into the ramp, but I always beat everyone. I was the fastest rider in the Black Market and it drove the boys crazy. Hey, I grew up with two brothers, practically more from all my brother’s friends! I had been driving these babies since I could remember! The bunker entrance was like driving through one of those tunnels on the highway. It was pitch black; lit only with a orange glowing LED lights spread through out a few feet away from each other until the tunnel opened up. “Titanium entrance open.” I spoke clearly then pressing my finger to the holographic thumb print on my holographic windshield. The walls shook to my voice activated command and DNA scan and I heard the titanium doors begin pulling apart as they screeched across the hard stone floors. I saw a black bike zoom up next to me. I instantly hit the gas harder thinking it was a challenge, until I looked over to see it was Wren with his hot black hair and his big eyes staring into mine with a scared and excited smile mixed on his thin lips.
I turned my attention back to the main goal and sped up ahead into the tunnel opening. I spun a donut right in the middle of the opening and hopped off my bike. Helmets were stupid. I never wore one. The other bikes were diving into the tunnel entrance now sounding like a thousand swarming bees when in reality it was just sixty men and women on bikes plowing into an echoic tunnel.
They did the donut spin like I did and hopped off from the side throwing there helmets on the floor or the handlebar of there bike after kicking out the kick stand. Another reason I liked four wheelers; they didn’t fall over. I paced ahead of the rest into the large tunnel entrance opposite of the one we entered.
Inside held loads of unreleased technology we had been working on as well as the laptop Alexander had. It wasn’t supposed to be anywhere but here. But the smugglers had bribed one of the forces men to smuggle it to there laboratories. Of course I put him through some torcher before sending him to prison for disloyalty. I thought about how I kicked him where the sun don’t shine and spit on his face before shoving him in his solid, windowless, cell that was stored underneath the ground all day instead of just at night like all the other buildings. I wondered what the above underground was doing right now with all the buildings sinking into the ground and cave walls before the usual shut in time. They were probably in panic. The only days we didn’t close in the buildings into the ground and cave walls at night was when I knew there was going to be a party, because who doesn’t love to party? I shook my head out of my ADD mode and focused on the situation.
The room was filled with many other things besides advanced technology. It had a large movie screen that projected all around surveillance of the surface, landmarks, and other areas. The floor and walls were strong titanium and I was so tempted to hop in one of the super expensive techy cars and do a crazy drive with Wren. I shook my head again and made my way to the front where the ground rose up and a podium sat. I tapped the microphone and tucked a strand of my long blonde hair behind my ear nervously.
“It has come to our attention to take a stand against the way things are. For the next seventy two hours we will be monitoring the expedition of Elijah Williams, Alexander Wright, Bliss Evergold, Mordecai Colter, Jedidiah Sonata, and Aiden Harvard. I have contacted all surface bounty hunters to stand guard of the bases and camps. They are also going to be in range of the moving targets and assassins. We must watch there every move and walk them through the mission. This is more than just for them. This is for the sake of our lives. Sure, we might survive five more years tops out here, but what about after that? Did we ever expect to stay down here forever? No. This started out as safe place until they cleaned it up again, but there minds are stretched farther than the well society of this planet.” I spoke clearly into the microphone. My team of men and women stood straight looking ahead, but I heard there murmurs. I turned around to my attention of the cameras. So far nothing. Elijah would be returning hear tonight before she left to receive the time bombs. I had something else to give her too that I think she will like very much. I heard footsteps adjoin me onto the stage. I turned my head to see Wren looking over at me from the side as he faced the camera screened wall.
“I never doubted you Scar.” He murmured. I didn’t look at him. Instead I just turned my head and smiled and I knew he knew I was smiling. We just stood there in silence observing for that moment and I felt really good even though I had no clue what was about to happen after this. I might even loose my best friend. But right now in this moment I wasn’t scared. I felt content.
