Elijah burst threw the doors and the crowd went wild. “Woo!” I cheered along louder than the rest it seemed, but I must say Akemi was maybe a little louder. All the rest of the team had made it by a little sooner, but I had a feeling Elijah wanted to stop by somewhere before she adjoined the rest. She proudly smiled and waved, obviously loving the attention. She was always blabbing on about one day being a star. I looked at the standing members all dirty except for the ones who hung back. Jedidiah, Mordecai, and Aiden were all cloaked with smoke. Akemi, Bliss, and Alexander were normal looking. Well I wouldn’t call Alexander normal looking since he dressed like a business man for everything. Elijah ran up and attack hugged Akemi and I at the same time wrapping her tiny legs around us, but I wouldn’t dare comment on that, and her arms around our necks so hard it was practically cutting off my circulation to my brain. She let go and her combat boots clunked against the concrete floor. I rose to the podium about to speak.

“Here we have our heroes. Elijah, Alexander, Bliss, Akemi, Jedidiah, Aiden, Mordecai, myself, and the many bounty hunters on the surface. Now thanks to them, we can begin to recreate society. It’s not going to be a walk in the park, but we can do it! No we’re not entirely safe, but a hell of a lot safer than before! We freed so many of our people today it’s amazing!” I bellowed into the micro foamed podium. Micro foam was foam that was built into objects so bulky microphones didn’t have to be attached. It was a raging product in the 2020’s. Now it was a little outdated. The crowd cheered to my announcement and I turned to the fellow beholders as they all bowed, and so did I with awkward poise.

“All of you are probably wondering what happened to the people and the ones who couldn’t be let out into radioactive air. Well, to answer that question, the bounty hunters all stood guard around the areas of each base and are guiding them back here and any of the enhanced ones as well. A lot of them want to go on their own though. We gave them a rundown on everything that’s happening and they are going to help recreate society. A lot of the ones going out on their own are doing that for those reasons. Now I know a little thing or two about government, and the other countries are well aware of what’s happened here. They know from the seismic waves, spy ware, etc. But they know. So never, ever let your guard down. We got rid of a lot, but I guarantee we haven’t got them all in our country, and certainly not free from threats from other countries, but we have more of us now. More answers. More of a hope for a cure. We are the one’s who started this, and we’re going to finish it!” I exclaimed filled with pride. I think that was the most heroic and well put together speech I’ve ever given in my whole life. Shouts and screams and whistles of agreement rose from the crowd. The camera men gave me a thumbs up that they were done filming and I stepped away from the podium over to Elijah.

“I was on T.V!” She exclaimed with mixtures of emotions I could, of course, make out. She was excited and embarrassed at the same time. I could feel a strong sine of pride and accomplishment off everyone. I felt so warm and happy inside. Happier than I’ve been in a long time.  I nodded to Elijah.

“I look so disgusting!” She exclaimed half embarrassed, half amused as she slid her hands across her body pointing out the smoke stains, smell, and matted hair.

“You look like one of those sexy, grungy, girls who just got out of a climaxing battle in a movie!” I told her. She looked down at her attire again and shrugged an agreeing shrug.

“I can dig it.” She told me. I laughed. Akemi walked over and picked her up and kissed her hard as Elijah wrapped her smoke stained legs around his waist. I made a gag motion at her friends and Jedidiah did one back in agreement. They broke apart with huge grins and Elijah hopped down interlocking her fingers with his.
