I was awoken from my sleep by the sound of rustling in the bed. I rolled over and heaved my tired eyes open. I saw Elijah sitting up peering out the window at the pitch black night. “Eli, you alright?” I asked yawning. She nodded smiling. She unsheathed her claw/nails.

“Being a cat-girl keep you up at night a lot.” She explained. I thought it was awesome she was like Cat Woman. I loved cats and Cat Woman was sexy. So it was perfect!

“Oh yeah.” I said with a laugh. I was awake now. I guess from the sudden rush of teenage hormones. I sat up and peered out the window with her. The moon was pretty much gone since our atmosphere was so cloudy with debris and radioactive chemicals. It was the end of the world as we knew it. You could only see a faint glow in the distance of where you could make a guess where it was at. It could have been a building in the distance though, who knows? Elijah reached for my hand and curled her finger on top of mine. She laid her head on my shoulder and sighed. “What?” I asked concerned. She was so much better than me; she could be gone at any second.

“Just thinking about how insane this world is. No one could have seen this coming. This world is a cruel, cruel place. Soon enough the radiation will have spread across to other continents and our whole planet will be destroyed.” She sadly told me. I squeezed her hand gently letting her know it would be okay.

“On Facebook one day you posted a quote that said, everything will be okay in the end, if it isn’t it’s not the end. Listen to your own advice.” I told her lifting her chin up. She smiled. I peered into her electrical blue eyes and she stared back into my lame brown eyes for what seemed like forever.

“Hey, we should make out.” She whispered. I smiled and laughed.

“There’s Elijah.” I said leaning into her soft rosy lips. I gently kissed her and then our kisses grew deeper and stronger. I could feel so many fireworks. It was always like this when we kissed. She wrapped her arms all the way around me and I was holding the side of her face with one of my hands and the small of her back with the other. My hormones were so crazy right now. Being a teenager in an apocalypse with a girl you’ve always had a crush on is a pretty huge influence on puberty. Elijah began hunching over me and I leaned back onto the bed. She ran her fingers through my long black hair and ran her fingers up my shirtless back. Right now, I wasn’t feeling the need to rip off he clothes or do anything crazy like my dirty mind would usually think. Right now, I just wanted to hold her close. We broke apart and she was leaning over my face with her long wavy red hair cascading around the side of my face. Her smile was wide and genuine.

“Elijah…” I began. Her eyes steadily watched me. Her smile had faded, but she didn’t seem worried. “I have never dated anyone besides you.” I told her.

“Yes, I know.” She replied. “I’m actually really happy to be your first kiss and girlfriend. I feel pretty special.” She told me with a small laugh.

“You are special. You mean a lot to me. I never have ever felt this way. It’s like my whole body feels jittery and happy when I think of you or I’m around you. I never would have ever been talking like I am right now until I began hanging out with you on this journey. I always had a crush on you since I met you, I just never thought it would ever be a mutual thing, you know?” She let me talk and was encouraging me to continue my story by the glee filled look in her eyes. “You know how lazy I am and how mean I am to people?” I asked her. She laughed.

“Yes, that’s two things we have in common which were big reasons why I liked you so much.” She told me. I smiled. We were a lot alike. NotGriffinand Elijah alike, but about the same as her and Ezekial and they were very much alike.

“Well, when I met you I just couldn’t be mean to you. You were so funny and pretty and instantly someone I wanted to be around. Now, that we are together I have this feeling where I would get up off the couch to get you something if you asked. I would never ever do that for anyone no matter what before! These feeling are crazy…” I trailed off. She was grinning ear to ear right now. Her fingers entwined with mine.

“Akemi that is the sweetest thing anyone has ever told me in person. Most people text me a bunch of sappy stuff, but I know you truly mean this if you can say it aloud. I just, don’t even know what to say. I’m just so happy right now.” She told me with glee just flooding out from her mouth. I smiled real big. I gulped.

“Elijah, I’m in love with you.” I told her with my face instantly growing dead serious. Her face drained of color even though she already had porcelain skin. She was completely speechless. Oh no, did she not feel the same way? Was this to soon? Had I ruined everything? Before she could answer, Bliss’ ear shattering scream took over the whole house. Elijah jumped to her feet light as a feather and effortlessly, almost like a ghost, leaped onto the chandelier that hung over the staircase. It didn’t sway or clink at all. What I saw at the bottom of the steps shocked me. I was frozen for a moment. Men in Hazmat suits with large ray guns with powerful jolts of plasma inside them and dog crates were in the house. They had Bliss. Elijah beckoned me to hide in the linen closet. She was well are it was a make shift hiding spot, because she was the queen of hide and seek. She never lost in her life. She knew that was a horrible place to hide, but they were running out of time. The men began searching the house. I could sense Jedidiah hiding in the closet downstairs with Aiden. I saw Ezekial andGriffinflat against the ceiling. I was trying to slow my breathing as best I could. The men began searching the downstairs. Elijah turned to me alert. All her cat-like senses were fully up and running. She had a plan like usual.

“Alright Akemi, listen carefully.” She began. I nodded. “We are going to be taken. Do not struggle. They will put us all in the examination room together at first to see if we have diseases, injuries, or any type of abilities. After that, they will have put us in our Cube numbers. We will most likely be separated. Bliss will be the first to get out as well as me. We will then sneak into your Cube by wearing a uniform and rewiring some panels. After we give the cameras a false target the guards will have ran a different direction. We have one shot at this. We will have exactly six minutes to evacuate before the guards realize the target is a decoy and start heading in with reinforcements. Whatever happens, do not discontinue the plan.” She strictly told me. What? Was she out of her mind? Of course not, she was a genius, and always was right. I nodded reluctantly and bit my tongue. Jedidiah was found first along with Aiden. They tried to fight, but it was useless. The ray gun, or whatever, took them out instantly. The dead weight was thrown into a dog crate. Elijah hopped down and gaveGriffinand Ezekial a look for them to do it too. I was sureGriffinunderstood what was going on. Elijah stomped her foot and they blasted her out cold. Then they spotted me when I ran out of the closet. One hit and I was down. My eyelids didn’t even have time to put up a fight. The blast of icy and fiery plasma traveled through me as fast as light. Darkness evaded me and that was it.
