----Epilogue pt. 1----
(Chase)
It had been a couple months since the bombing had taken place. I had been living inside an abandoned city nearNew Orleans. Outcomes came and went throughout here. There seemed to be less than usual of their lumpy lifeless corpses. I had an Uzi I carried around with me though for the wondering grizzly Outcomes. I trekked through the empty town that was untouched from the recreation so far. We had gotten a huge step towards rebuilding man kind. I knew of tons of shops and businesses opened up now, and the most successful of them all; Wright enterprises where the latest tech was. I had to get my hands on some of that. A puss oozing Outcome with scabby fleshy gums came gnawing out from around the corner. I jumped and cornered myself into a hard stone wall. I shot it in the hollow eye, but they continued to lunge. I shot it again and it fell down as it twitched it’s scabby grey and torn arm with dried ligaments hanging down from the elbows. It was a female from the looks of its frazzled nearly bald head of long strands. Usually my trajectory was perfect since I calculated angles in the blink of an eye, but that one really caught me off guard. I turned the corner and felt a steel barrel press up against the back of my head.
I stiffened up. “Hello, can I help you.” I asked trying to stay calm. I planned that I would give them the time of day, because I had the angle of my escape to perfection as I could tell that five other men stood guard around the corner, but my visual of sound waves detected no one to the west or east.
“This is Chase Vectrum; am I correct?” The voice was a manly voice filled with seriousness and no intentions of horse play.
“Affirmative.” I replied trying to hold my breath.
“We need you and are willing to pay any sum of cash. We are the remaining forces of troop one nineteen.” The officer said turning me around so I could look into his eyes. The five men who accompanied him ganged up behind me pointing their barrels to my head. My escape route had been terminated due to acting out to slow. Shame on me and my ever changing mind.
“What do you need me for?” I stammered thinking I knew the question. They wanted to hold me captive just like they had all those months ago. I fought back a shudder and panic attack that was rising from an effect of my asthma. I clutched my pocket to feel for my inhaler that was still in there tucked safely. My stress lowered a notch knowing that my life was in my pocket.
“Are you aware that Elijah Williams is behind this? We know you have had a past with her. We are always watching.” He told me in a sickening tone. A tone that let me know he was right. That they listened through my phone, the televisions, the internet, and on the streets. They were everywhere watching society grow and fall apart.
“I was not. I do not continue contact with her. I haven’t since early June.” I told them truthfully.
“Well, do you accept our offer on finding her and taking her in? She’s the only one we need. You can’t bomb and kill thousands of people and expect to get away with it. All the others though, we will keep here. Society did need this step, we were just to blind to see it. Our facilities will pay and contribute to rebuilding the country, but we can’t put funds to that until we find Elijah Williams, because right now our funds are being used to hunt her down. She is a fast one. Wouldn’t want her to end up somewhere else and put everyone else in danger, now would we?” He countered in a very persuasive way. I felt torn at the mention of Elijah, yet angry, and excited for this plan. We were seeing eye to eye and everything seemed to work out fine, Elijah would be locked up for perfectly good reasons, and funds would be put back into contributing to our country. I knew Elijah would be killed. I wasn’t stupid, but she deserved it. But I did know what danger they were talking about. They were going to tear this country apart looking for her if that’s what it took. They were prepared to start a holocaust if that’s what it took. It left a nauseas feeling in my gut.
“With your brains and our technology, we know we can find her. We just need some assistance on this matter. If you don’t accept we will gladly drive you back to your quarters.” They offered politely, but I knew my quarters meant a six foot hole in the ground. I couldn’t believe short, feisty, Elijah blew up multiple places inside the country killing hundreds of thousands.
“I will be getting funded an excessive amount, a new living area for me and my family, and the money of the government will be funded to the countries development, correct?” I mustered together from my never forgetting memory core.
“I swear on my right hand.” The chiseled man grunted with a smirk on his face.
“Deal.” I said and I shook his tight gripped hand.
