Bedtime Battles

Seren did not want to go to bed. The kindergartner loved nighttime, but hated the very aspect of bedtime like every little kid on this planet. If his mama was distracted with his baby sister long enough, he would be able to avoid sleeping and continue playing.

6:30. Two hours until bedtime.

Seren knew that his mom just got his little sister in the bath, which meant that she would be going to bed soon. He sat on the floor, drawing a small picture of a fox. His eyes scoured the room, before looking back down at the drawing on the floor. He had plenty of time.

7:00. An hour and a half until bedtime. Seren could hear his mother reading a bedtime story, and the incoherent sleepy babbles of his sister. This was the perfect time to ask to stay up. He walked into Riley's room, his feet shuffling. "Mommy?"

Night looked up from the picture book. "Oh, hi baby. I'm just getting your sister into bed for the night."
" yeah, about that. Can I stay up with Cyrus and Hunter tonight? I'll be a good boy!"

The mother of four sighed. "I'm sorry, star baby. You're far too little to be staying up that late. You get upset when you don't sleep well."

Seren huffed. He was not too little! He wasn't a baby! He could handle it! He was in kindergarten which made him qualify as a big boy in his eyes.
So the boy walked back into his bedroom. Plan A was an absolute failure. Maybe daddy would help. No he wouldn't. The young boy knew his dad would probably agree with his mother. The boy sat in his room for an hour. Every single plan did not fit right in his head.
Seren thought again for a moment. He knew exactly where to go next. His rebellious big brother Cyrus.

The young child made his way down the stairs and into the living room where his big brother was playing video games. "Cy?"
The teenager looked up from the tv. "Oh hey, little dude! What's up?"

"I wanna stay up with you! Mama said no. She thinks I'm too little..."

Cyrus laughed. "Sweet boy, she's right. Follow me."

"Hey mama! Ser Bear does not want to go to bed and you told him he was too little to stay up with me. He thinks you said it in a mean way." Cyrus said, and Night hopped down from the soft rocking chair, kind gray eyes meeting reddish orange. "Seren, honey. I didn't mean for it to sound like me saying you were too little to stay up was a bad thing. I know you're a big boy, but even big boys can't handle certain things. Like your brother Hunter can't handle the dark. Cyrus can't handle sleeping without me giving him a goodnight kiss."

Cyrus turned red, and Seren giggled.

Seren hugged his mother. Suddenly, Night's watch went off.
" OK buddy, it's bedtime. come on"

No. He wasn't going to. All the little boy wanted was to stay up like his brothers and he wasted two hours trying to convince the people around him to let him do so

He almost thought about going to bed, but changed his mind. "Don't wanna!"

Night decided to negotiate. She knew her son was overtired from the constant fighting he did. " if you go to bed tonight, you can stay up with your brothers this weekend. Only if you sleep now though. Do we have a deal?"

You thought you guys were going to see the outcome? Ha! I'm the ruler of cliffhangers!
