Cyrus waited. He was going out tonight to a party, and being grounded wasn't going to stop him. His morality was all over the place, mainly because of the nasty breakup with Audrey, but also the Axel situation. He needed a release, a de-stressor if you will. He exited through through the back door, and ran to Kyle's house.
The party was wild. Cyrus spotted Kyle, and smiled. The party host shook Cyrus' hand, and the party was off to a good start.
What Cyrus didn't account for was Audrey in the back corner. Audrey knew he wasn't supposed to be out here, not in these circumstances. She checked her phone. It was two in the morning, but there was a small sliver of hope that Night would answer. Night was probably mad at her for the breakup, but Audrey had to do something. Not to get back at Cyrus, but to protect him. She ran into the bathroom, slamming the door shut. She clicked Night's contact, and waited. "Audrey, I told you not to call me anymore." Night said on the other line, and judging by the crying Audrey heard, she was taking care of Riley. "It's kind of important, Mrs. Slysdale. I'm at Kyle's house for a party and-" Audrey paused before sending a photo of Cyrus she took.At home, Night's eyes widened. She ran into Cyrus' room, and his bed was empty. "I'm on my way, 'Drey honey. Keep an eye on him for me, and I'm sorry for getting mad at you. I was just in mama mode."
"Okay. I'll meet you out front."
Night was livid
At the party, Cyrus was drinking a small solo cup of beer. Audrey knew Cyrus had severe Alcohol intolerance, so she watched as Kyle took it from him. Her phone buzzed.
From honorary mama
I'm pulling in.Audrey got up and walked out to the front yard where Night was stepping out of her car. "Thank you so much for letting me know, kiddo. You're welcome back at my house anytime. Now, let's go get him, shall we?"
The sixteen, almost seventeen year old smiled with pure joy. She never felt happier in her life than she did when she heard those words.
The teens were enjoying themselves. That is, until the door opened with a booming slam!
"CYRUS ORION SLYSDALE!"
The music came to a halt, and and Cyrus felt someone lift his chin from the chair he was sitting in. It was his mother, and her eyes were burning gold. She looked at him with so much anger, that he felt it radiating off of her. His blue eyes looked to his left and he spotted Audrey, her hand on Night's shoulder. "You bitch! You ratted me out!"
"I didn't rat you out, dummy. I did this for your own fucking good. I love you too much for you to watch you ruin yourself like this. It's not romantic like it used to be, but my love for you is still there."Cyrus stared at her and laughed. "If you really did, you wouldn't have done this."
Audrey rolled her eyes. "Are you stupid, Slysdale? It's exactly why I fucking did it. Did you not hear me the first time?"
Cyrus wanted to fight her, but Night grabbed his arm and walked him out to the car, the anger present in the way she walked. Audrey followed them out, not wanting to be alone at that party. "Mrs. Slysdale, can I stay over tonight? I don't want to be at that party anymore."Night looked at her. "Don't call me that, Drey. You can call me Mama Night. You're family. You went above and beyond to protect my kid. And yes, you can stay over. Riley misses her 'Duckie'"
Audrey smiled. The little girl had started calling her that when Audrey had brought her stuffed duck, Sir Quackington to the house one day.
Cyrus scoffed. "Are you fucking kidding me?! She's my e-"
"Silence, Cyrus." Hissed Night
Cyrus crossed his arms. He sat in the back of the car, making snide remarks under his breath.
When they got back, Audrey ran into the nursery, where Riley was crying. "Hey there, duckling! Miss me?"
Riley stopped. "DUCKIE!!" She cried out, letting Audrey pick her up. "Your mama had to pick up your big brother, and she brought me back too! But let's get you back to sleep, okay?"
Audrey sat in the corner rocking chair, humming the Bluey theme.Cyrus did not want to know how much shit he was in, but it was deep.
