Seren was sitting on the kitchen island, munching on a miniature waffle for breakfast. His father, Sunny, popped in to check on his mini me. "Hey, star baby. How's that waffle?" The young father asked his second youngest child, who gave a small smile.
"P'retty good. Daddy, what do you want for your birthday? It's on Friday and I want to make it special."
Sunny chuckled. "Serenito, there's two things I want. Birthday hugs and cuddles from my galaxy babies, and the other thing is something I can't discuss with you."
Seren cocked their head, confused. "Grown up stuff?"
Sunny nodded. His mini me was one smart kid for being only five years old. "Oh! Okay daddy. Do you need me to get mommy?"
"No, it's okay kiddo. Go finish breakfast."
"Okay! Can we play tag after?" The child asked with bright eyes and a pleading smile.
"Yeah! Only if you wear your coat. It's cold out."
Seren disappeared, only for Cyrus to come into Sunny's view. "Dad, I want to join you after your birthday dinner."
Sunny stared at his oldest, the two being nearly the same height, with Cyrus being a few inches shorter. "No."
"Why not? If I don't go with you I'm gonna go to a party instead."
Sunny sighed. "Cyrus Orion. Mrs. Clawthorne will be coming over to babysit after we come home from dinner. I love you but I need time with your mother. And you're not going anywhere."
Cyrus huffed. "Can I call up my buddies so we can watch IT?"
Sunny hated horror movies, the goosebumps forming on his skin at the mention of one of Stephen King's most famous works. "Once the kids go to bed, yes. If I find out you watched it with the little ones awake, I'm banning you from eating any leftover birthday cake and you will be grounded."
Cyrus smiled wildly, hugging his dad. "Thanks dad!" The teen scampered off, leaving Sunny alone to sit down at the table.
"Almost 23 years old and I feel like I'm 60..." he muttered
But the man was looking forward to a night in a hotel with his wife and a birthday dinner with his kids.
