The Dilemma Of Everything

I pull up to work that very weekend and it seems so unusual to be parking up on a Saturday. The car park is at a quarter of the capacity it usually is. I still pull up in my usual spot, next to Keira's car. She rarely ever drives anymore, rattling on about using public transport and protecting the environment or something. I hop out of the car and lock up, tutting at a small scratch on the bonnet. I don't even remember making the dent to begin with. The red paintwork has dulled over the years and my driving doesn't help. I really fit the stereotype of young blonde driver, bumping up kerbs and mindlessly continuing with my journey.

I head up to the conference room and ponder the idea of speaking to Liam. He wont be here. It's a Saturday and he isn't part of the Birmingham filming. He won't be at the briefing beforehand and he won't be on the train there. The thought fills my head with disappointment, being at work without him doesn't feel the same. I walk past his office anyway, but of course the door is shut and the lights are off. It's an empty feeling. Walking past his desolate office in the mornings when we'd usually talk. I shake it off and walk up to the conference room where we meet Scott for our briefing.

I notice Gareth, leaning against the wall while speaking to another coworker. His eyes latch on mine instantly, so I look away. I wonder if Liam has told him anything about me at all. Don't get me wrong, we've always gotten on as acquaintances. I just can't help but feel I should know more about Liam's partner in crime. Then again, I have barely spoken to Keira about him. I am too focussed on keeping his promise and keeping us to ourselves.

Scott is frantic (as usual) in the briefing and no one can seem to make any sense of his blubbering. I roll my eyes and wonder once again who put him in charge of anything. Keira and I hop in an Uber to the train station. She looks wonderful today in loose grey tracksuit bottoms and a oversized hoodie. It's odd to see her dressed so common. She usually has much more finesse, even for a train journey. Keira always overdresses and says she'd much rather be prepared than caught out.

"So, tell me about the date!" I begin as the Uber pulls away.

"Tiffany, it was magnificent! The restaurant was gorgeous!" She enthuses, her ponytail swinging as she speaks.

"Did he clarify your relationship?"

"Absolutely. Alex is my now boyfriend and we definitely aren't seeing other people!"

Her eyes glitter as she talks about him. I wonder if my eyes light up the same way when the glorious thought of Liam enters my mind.

"Congratulations!"

"What about you and Liam?" She asks.

I'm taken aback by her interest considering she has built up some hefty resentment for the guy over the years. I bite back a smile and decide to keep it brief.

"We're doing good. We text a lot and call most days. I know you think I'm crazy but he really is changing for me."

"I believe you." Keira smiles, glancing out of the window as the world passes us by.

We hop on the train and settle into our seats. I make sure to sit as far away from Scott as possible. Not just because I don't fancy spending time around my ex - the primary reason I need space from him is because he is too frantic for me to think clearly when he's near.

Keira and I spend some time applying makeup, ready to face the day once we arrive. We are here to film an some VT's for a another new segment we will be debuting in the autumn seasons. It seems very last minute, everything has been packed into a day. I have no doubt that this was all Scott's fault, he always has been hideous at planning things. We have a tight schedule to hit the hotel, film till late then check out and head home very early the next morning.
