Howard and I were getting ready for our first test of the day.
Me.
I would go early in the morning, and Steve would go later in the afternoon. This would be so that if something went wrong for any reason, I could fix it before it was too late for Steve and something happened with his procedure too.
Howard doesn't know this, of course. He thinks I'm just excited to see if it works. Which I am. But I'm also nervous that something will go wrong. It's a gut feeling I've been having all morning, and my gut feeling is almost never wrong.
I even had it before my failure of a flying car went on stage.
Howard was running late as usual, so I was making myself busy by making sure nothing was wrong with the machine.
"Everything will go just fine, Olivia." Doctor Erskine said behind me. I turn around to see him standing there, hands clasped behind his back with a knowing look on his face.
"I thought so too, but something has just seemed...off today. It's driving me crazy not knowing what it is."
"I'm sure it is nothing," He said, right as Howard finally made an appearance and strutted into the room."How is my little sister doing this fine morning?" He asked, walking over to me and the doctor.
"I'm fine." I lied, giving the best fake smile I could.
"She says she's been having a bad feeling all morning." Erskine budded in.
"Snitch.""Don't worry about it, sis. I designed it and you built it. Nothing can go wrong." Howard cheerfully stated. How he can be so optimistic about things like this I will never know. "Now that I'm here though, we can go ahead and get started." He walked over to the control panel, getting the capsule to be parallel to the ground. I walked over to it, took my shirt and shoes off so I was in just a tank top and my skirt, and got in after handing my clothing to one of the nurses.
"How is it, Oliv?" Howard asked after I was properly laying down.
"Like if I fell asleep I would wake up with back problems." I joked.
Another nurse, Liv, came over to give me the penicillin after the paddles were placed on my chest. It didn't hurt as much as it should have for such a large needle.
"I swear woman you are a miracle worker with a needle. I bearly even felt that." I chuckled.
"I aim to please, Ms. Stark. I just hope you do not feel much pain when the serum is injected." She joked back, before turning a bit more serious.
Liv had been helping me a bit when Erskine was indisposed. There were times when I needed input from someone in the medical field about where to put certain things so they had the most impact on what we wanted to do.
"I'm sure it'll hurt like hell, but hey, it'll be worth it in the end. Hopefully." I smirked. Liv smirked back before walking back over to her little spot by the wall.
"You know how all of this is to work, yes?" Erskine asked, walking over to me.
"Yep." I huffed."Alright then. Seeing as the show is for Steven tomorrow, I shall spare you the theatrics."
"Thanks for that. I would almost be afraid you were seeing stuff you shouldn't be if you did."
Erskine just chuckled, before asking Howard how the levels were before they started the process of making me a super soldier. The vital of the serum were entered into their places in the capsule, and when everything was secure and ready, it began.
Erskine counted down from ten. At five, the arm injectors came down to sit snuggly on my biceps. At one, The serum was injected. It was a second too late that I realized one of the vials had a bit of purple in it.
"Now, Mr. Stark," Erskine said as I grunted, the capsule being moved to an almost standing position by Howard while the top and sides closed around me.
"Olivia, can you hear me?" Erskine knocked on the capsule.
"Loud and clear, Doc." I probably should have mentioned what I saw in the vile, but it had already been injected. I don't think there was anything that could be done at this point besides praying it didn't have any effect on this process.
"Let's proceed." Erskine then told Howard, who went to start upping the Vita-ray percentage.
"Ok, it's now at 10%." Howard started, slowly turning the dial. "Twenty percent." The light inside the capsule got brighter and brighter as the percentage went up, making it almost blinding when we got to 40%.
"How are her vitals?" Erskine asked one of the other techs after Howard yelled "Fifty percent".
"Vital signs are normal."
Howard continued counting up as he turned the dial, the light still continuing to get brighter as it went. The small pain I had experienced at first was also rising, getting to be too much when Howard reached eighty percent. I shouted in pain, and as soon as I did I could almost feel Howard lowering the percentages back down.
"Oliv?!" Howard shouted, not leaving his spot in case he needed to stop this.
"Olivia!" Erskine yelled, pounding on the capsule. "Turn it off, now!" He then yelled to my brother.
"No! No, I'm ok. I'm fine!" The two men gave each other worried looks, not sure how to proceed. "Keep going! We're almost there!" I urged.
Howard paused for a moment longer, before going back to the dial and continuing to raise the levels.
The pain came back stronger, but I gritted my teeth as hard as I could, desperate to not let them hear and stop the experiment. If I could do this, there was no reason Steve couldn't.
Right as Howard got to 100% sparks started to erupt from all of the machines and the lights dimmed. Almost as soon as the bright light from the capsule was gone, Howard got to work opening it back up. Steam came out as the sides opened up, revealing what could only be described as the new me.
My then 5'3 self was now around 5'8, and my once lightly noticeable muscles were decently prominent. I was panting heavily, my legs feeling like jelly as Howard rushed over to help me out, almost collapsing under my new weight in the process.
"I think... it worked." I panted, Howard giving a breathy chuckle to my statement.
"I think so, sis. I think so."
All of a sudden, the room started to spin and I became very woozy.
"Howard..." My eyebrows furrowed. "I think some things... wrong." I got out, just before I collapsed on the floor.I blacked out.
