"Hey, come with me. We're going on a little road trip." Fury knocked on my office door.
"Okay, give me just a sec to finish this and then I'll be good." I nodded, though my brows were lowered in confusion. "Where're we going?"
"Out."
"Which means you'll tell me in the car, got it." I nodded, logging out of my computer and shutting it off. I walked over to Nick, tuning around once out the door to lock it.
"I'm driving, right?" I asked as we walked down to the elevator, which took us to the garage.
"If you want. You might want a clear head while we talk, though."
"Eh, I think better when my mind focuses on two things at once. It'll be fine." I shrugged, catching the keys Nick threw at me and unlocking the car, getting in the driver's side while he got in the passenger."Computer, activate communications encryption protocol." Fury raised his voice to the A.I. as we drove away from SHIELD headquarters.
"Activating communications encryption protocol."
"Open secure line 0405."
"Confirmed."
"This is Hill." Maria's profile came up on the upper left and right windshield of the car, her voice coming through the speakers.
"I need you here in D.C. Deep shadow conditions."
"Give me four hours."
"You have three. Over." He hung up the phone.
"So, you going to tell me what's going on? Or at least where the GPS is taking us to?"
"You know our little friends that have been paying a visit?""Please don't tell me it's already started." I groaned,
"I think so. I was kicked out of one of my secure files. I think it was them."
"Do you know who kicked you out?""A.I. said it was Nicholas J. Fury."
"Well, that can't be right," I mumbled, slowing the car as we came up to a red light.
"No, it can not."
From the corner of my eye, I watched as Nick did a double take on the cop car to the right of us, both officers staring right at us.
"Want to see my lease?" He sarcastically asked them.
The cop driving turned the flashing lights on, the siren going off for a second as they drove away, the light having turned green. I slowly put my foot back on the gas, pulling out into the intersection to continue on our way when another cop car came out of nowhere on my left, crashing right into the car and making the airbags go off.
The cop car that was just in front of us switched to reverse, ramming into the front of our van while another car smashed into our trunk and another came and hit the right of us, each side now having a different cop car.
"Fracture and brake detected." The car A.I. told us, showing an x-ray of Nick's fractured left arm in front of him while one of my broken right leg came up in front of me.
"Is that why it hurts so much?" I sarcastically asked.
"Recommend anesthetic injection for both."
Nick quickly pulled out two injection pens, handing me one for my leg while he shot the other in his arm.
"D.C. Metro Police dispatch shows no units in this area."
