Alice POV
Days blended after sulking in the penthouse for long, long, and dreary days. You'd think spending your days in a New York penthouse would be glamorous - I found it incredibly dull. If that wasn't enough, I had a new babysitter. One of Matsuo's men occupied the living area in silence each day. As one can imagine, these men aren't much of a conversationalist, plus they're not too thrilled to be watching me, a cop, all day. Their blatant hate was easily conveyed whenever they looked at me with a sneer.
Zhen, he wore a permanent resting bitch face in my presence at all times, and it never wavered. Never have I seen a grin on his miserable little face, always looks like he's sucking on a lemon.
It's not like I want to talk with these criminals; sitting around all day doing absolutely nothing is killing me. Pretty sure my sanity is slowly fading away.
Even with Zhen sitting in the leather armchair adjacent to the couch, I felt alone in the deafening silence. He often played on his phone, rarely glancing up and likely counting down the seconds until Matsuo returned for the day. He has a hotel to run, so he'd be away attending to other matters during the day and sometimes late at night.
I switched on the television this morning after I woke up, finding Zhen situated in his usual spot. I ate a simple breakfast before returning to the couch and watching movie after movie. Sighing, I lean back, catching a glimpse of the city in perfect daylight. Today would be a good day to be outside.
Maybe I can convince Zhen.
Subtly, I glance at Zhen in the corner of my eye. Of course, his focus is trained on his phone like normal. He appeared relaxed, sitting with his leg propped on his knee and in a button-down shirt without a suit jacket.
I sigh loudly while trying to capture his attention. Nothing. Again, I sigh even louder, glancing in the corner of my eye for a reaction. Nothing. Shifting on the couch, I lean closer in his direction and let out another drawled obnoxious sigh. This time it was so obvious Zhen finally graced me with a glare.
Finally.
"What?" He snapped coldly.
"I'm bored," I confess.
He rolls his eyes looking back at his phone. I huff, slamming my hand on the arm of the couch and throwing my head back.
"Come on Zhen please, I've been in this penthouse for days. You're bored, I'm bored; c'mon let's get out of here." I begged while he remained unmoving. "Just the lobby or restaurant, maybe the gym. I don't care where just not here!"
I throw my hands up, exasperated with growing boredom. Zhen switched his gaze back to his phone, ignoring me once again. Looks like I'm stuck in this goddamn penthouse.
"I'll take you to the private pool," Zhen spoke without looking up from his phone.
My head shot up, gazing at him. He looked up from his phone with his signature scowl.
"Don't you dare try anything stupid."
I jolt up and immediately darted out of the living room into the bedroom, digging through the closet, looking for anything suitable to swim in. Fortunately, Matsuo thought of everything including swimming attire, unfortunately, most were strings. That man seriously has questionable taste. So I paired a modest top with another high-waisted bottom that exposed a part of my abdomen together. I will use the other string bathing suits to strangle Zhen if he ever manhandles me again.
Hastily I threw on the bathing suit and wrapped a fluffy robe around my body before stepping out. Zhen gave me a once over and sauntered to the elevator pressing the call button. I stood beside him until the lift arrived then we entered, traveling down a few floors.
