Matsuo POV

Not many women take a second look at me. They rather run in the opposite direction at first glance. If they do, it's not attraction that draws them. It's the money women assume I will drop on them like the old geezers that do.

I know who I am, and I know what I'm like, so those women don't stand a chance with me. That still didn't stop some, Serena, for insistence. She's under the delusion that I like her or have a chance with me. A brat like Serena wants what she can't have, and she can't have me. Call me cliche or corny or whatever, but I am still a man who believes in love even though it's a farfetched idea. However, it's not for me. It's not for the type of man I am.

Alice, she's different. Money doesn't motivate her actions whatsoever. It's quite the opposite. She's a stubborn woman and I like that. She stays true to herself after all this time trapped with me.

Next to me, Alice stirs in her sleep, turning on her side, and yawns. I sat on the edge of the bed nearby and watched over her. Ever since I carried Alice inside and had a doctor look over her, I've sat here beside her as she slept. I thought if I let her out of my sight, she'd disappear again.

Alice won't be thrilled when she wakes up realizing I changed her clothes. I wiped away the blood that was on her face and arms, cleaning her up a bit. At first, I was seething with anger when I saw bruises along Alice's ribcage. I calmed down when she stopped trembling in her sleep and fell into a deep sleep.

The doctor has her hooked up to an IV drip and gave some pain medication before she passed out. She didn't show pain, so I had to watch closely to notice.

I lightly touch her bruised cheek to move away a stray hair that covered her face. A single tear was at the edge of Alice's eye, and oddly, my chest tightened at the sight. I can't imagine what hell she's been through.

As I retract my hand, I lean forward to rest my elbows on my knees and look out of the glass sliding doors.

A display of rain clouds loomed over the pine trees, making this day as gloomy as ever. Where we are located is secluded, and only a handful of my most trusted men knew our exact location. This place is my home away from home; quiet, open, and surrounded by nature.

I take a glance at Alice, watching her eyes suddenly flutter open. She moved a bit in her sleep, tossing and turning. Instantly, I freeze on the spot when we make eye contact. She still seemed a bit dazed not registering where she is right now. I almost wanted to say something, but it was best to let her fall back asleep.

"Toma," Alice breathed as her eye's drupe closed once more.

A smile found its way across my face, and then I knew I was in deep trouble. I liked the way she said my name. It made my chest constrict painfully yet happily. I stand to my feet, feeling lightheaded and needing fresh air.

My private phone vibrated in my pocket, alerting me. I dug it out and answered in Japanese.

"What news do you have for me?"

"Zhen is okay and asking about the cop-

"She's fine, what else?" I interrupt while walking on the porch that wrapped around the back of the house.

Len was on the other end of the phone clearing his throat, "Well, we discovered what happened to your phone. One of our own was working under the orders of you father, we will have him dealt with."

"Does he know that we know?"

"No." Len answered.

"Keep it that way, I want to deal with him personally."
