Alice POV

In silence, I lay back in the cushion lounge chair near Serena. We were just out of earshot of Matsuo and Anthony, but I could still see them. They remained in the shaded area talking assumably about whatever business. The scenery is a nice distraction away from Serena sitting in a chair over to the left of me. She mostly played on her phone and talked on it constantly to whoever it is that made her laugh. The giggles I heard made me roll my eyes, so much I thought they would roll off the side of the boat, which is where I want to throw myself.

"Stop it, you're just saying that to be nice! You know how I get when you compliment me like that." Serena threw her head back mid-laugh. "Shut up, I was drinking tequila that night, so it wasn't my fault came on to you."

Serena stroked her hair as she chatted like some teen who talked to their crush over the phone. She liked to have her ego stroked, it's almost questionable that she's getting excited by it right now. This girl needed a cold shower, it's like watching a cat in heatsa for the first time.

Another round of mimosas is brought out by one of the deckhands and I gladly accept taking a big swig. Luckily enough, my escort is too deep in conversation with Anthony to notice me having another drink. This high-quality stuff is super strong, I already have a buzz and I am enjoying it. I placed the sunglasses over my eyes to take in the lovely sunlight and possibly get a tan out of this trip. For a moment I think about the fact I'm on a yacht owned by an Italian mafia leader. Plus, I'm here against my will with the Japanese mafia. The things that would happen if the Italians found out I was a cop. I couldn't help but chuckle at the current circumstances. This is literally an 'I'm in danger moment.

"What's so funny?" Serena asked as if I were crazy.

"Nothing," I laughed it off not realizing she ended the phone call.

I'm not supposed to be speaking to her as Matsuo warned, not that I desire to strike up a conversation with the snake. I still think about what that bitch did to my foot and very much would like to get revenge.

"So, Alice, I asked about you."

I rolled my eyes at her tone as if she's discovered some big mystery of the century. This time I remain silent and thought she'll maybe drop the conversation, if only I were so lucky.

"It's funny, none of my friends heard of you, or your dad for that matter. It's like you don't exist. Even in the smallest of social circles, your name doesn't come up, like at all." She continued to my demise.

"Huh, how strange." I shift in my seat trying to think up something quick. "Well, maybe it's because I'm normally working with my father most of the time, as you can imagine I don't get out much, socially."

At best I remain cool under Serena's questioning if that's what you can call this. This brat really needs to lay off, this was so much easier when Matsuo did all the talking.

"Still, it's just so odd. You must come from new money; most old money heiresses establish themselves very early. By the age of 16, everyone knew who I was." Serena pestered on and bragged like a gave a rat's ass.

"That must be it, my father and I stay to ourselves. Very reclusive." This surely should be enough to satisfy her curiosity.

"At his villa?"
