Would've published yesterday but I had to write an essay.
Evie:
Today was the day of Henry's funeral. As much as I didn't want to run into Adam, this wasn't something to miss just because seeing him would be awkward. Faye needs all the support she can get, not to mention Henry was my grandfather. It only feels right that I show up.
I got dressed in a black and white zip up skirt with a black tank top and black heels. I drove to Dawn's place where the gathering was being held. The door was wide open, as people from town went in and out. I went inside, finding Dawn as she greeted all the guests.
Every part of me told me to go the other way, but I found myself approaching her. My hand slightly touched her arm.
"I'm very sorry for your loss, Dawn.""Uh, thank you Evie. That.. it means a lot to me."
I nodded, "Of course. Faye?"
"Her bedroom, go on up. Melissa and Diana are in there."
I gave her arm a comforting squeeze and then went upstairs to Faye's room. She was standing in front of her mirror, in a pretty black dress. Melissa and Diana sat on the bed."Faye."
She turned, the mascara on her face already running. I grabbed a couple tissues and went over to her, rubbing the makeup off her face."He bought this for me a couple years ago, I was surprised to see it still fits," she laughed slightly.
"It looks wonderful on you. Our grandfather had good taste."
"Yeah," she laughed. "He did. I miss him so much."
"I know Faye," I said as I embraced her. "Come on."
The four of us went downstairs, Diana hardly looked my way. We'd barely spoken the three days it's been since the night Adam confessed his feelings for me. She had showed up at my door completely disheveled. I comforted her the best I could, but in the end, she was still angry and hurt. It's understandable, but I wish I didn't have to be the receiving end of it."I brought these," Jake said just as we got to the first floor. He stood there with flowers, and handed them to Faye.
"It's not much, but it's something." Out of nowhere, Faye hugged him."Thank you," she said softly. She left, presumably to find a vase. Diana and Melissa walked off to converse with the other townspeople.
"Nice gesture, bringing Faye flowers and all. It was sweet of you," I said with a soft smile.
"We don't always see eye to eye but Faye didn't deserve that. The things we've all been through since discovering our magic and binding the circle... it's a lot for a bunch of teenagers with no one but Jane to go to for help," he responded. Jake was right, all we really had was each other.
"Speaking of... where are Jane and Cassie?"
"I don't know, I saw Cassie before I came here, she seemed to have been getting ready."
"There's Cassie," I said. Jake turned to the doorway where the petite blonde walked inside. She approached us.
"Have either of you seen my grandmother?"
"No, she's not with you?" I asked.
"She left early."
"I'm sure we'll find her," Jake said. We split up, looking around the Chamberlain house for Jane. I rounded the corner into the kitchen, only to bump into someone.
"I'm so sorry-"
"It's, uh, it's fine."
"Adam."
"Yeah. You seem focused, anything wrong?"
