Isabelle's Perspective
“Thank God he’s gone,” Ryan muttered as we walked away from the beach. His voice was shaky, and he was gripping my hand tighter than usual. I frowned, looking at him. “Why are you so afraid? It’s not like you’ve seen a ghost.” Ryan shot me a quick glance, his face pale. “Izzy, you’re not going to believe what I saw. We’ll talk in the car, not here.” I rolled my eyes. He was acting weird, and I had no idea why. When we reached his car, I slid into the passenger seat while he started the engine. The ride was silent for a few minutes, and I could feel Ryan sneaking glances at me. Finally, he sighed. “Izzy, come on, talk to me. Why are you mad at me? What did I do?” I scoffed. “Seriously, Ryan? You’re asking me what you did? Please! You were shaking in your boots back there. You should’ve fought back! But you? You looked like you saw a ghost.”
“Izzy—” “Don’t Izzy me. If I wasn’t with you, you’d be dead.” Ryan exhaled sharply. “Izzy, baby, listen to me. It’s not like you’re going to believe me, but that man wasn’t normal.” I raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? And what exactly makes you say that?” “I saw his eye colour change from blue to pitch black. I swear, Izzy, he’s not human. I think he’s a vampire or a monster.” I burst out laughing. “Oh, come on, Ryan. This isn’t some Wattpad or Episode app story. We live in the real world! There are no vampires, no wolves, no monsters. You’re hallucinating.” Ryan’s jaw tightened. “Izzy, trust me.” I rolled my eyes. “Whatever. Anyway, I’m home. We’ll talk in college.” I grabbed my bag and stepped out of the car. As soon as I entered my apartment, I saw Jessica sprawling on the couch, completely engrossed in Stranger Things. She turned to me with excitement. “Ahhh, Izzy, you’re ack! How was your date?” I tossed my bag onto the table and sat beside her. Jessica’s eyes sparkled with curiosity.
“Tell me, bitch, how was your date? Did you lose your virginity? What was the surprise? Girl, spill the tea!” I chuckled. “Calm down, Jess. You’re not going to believe what happened today.” She folded her arms. “Well, I won’t know unless you tell me!” So, I told her everything—the romantic dinner, the surprise trip to Paris, the walk on the beach, and then the whole crazy encounter with him. The way he claimed me, how he beat up Ryan, and how weirdly drawn I felt toward him. Jessica listened like a therapist analyzing her patient. Then she gasped.
“What?! Izzy, are you okay?” I nodded. “Yeah, I’m fine. But I keep thinking… Who was he?” Jessica smirked. “By your explanation, I think he was a mafia leader.” I snorted. “Yeah, right. Why would a mafia leader be interested in me? Forget about it.” Jessica leaned in. “Okay, but tell me… Was he hot?” A sudden blush crept onto my face. Jessica’s eyes widened. “Oh my God, you’re blushing!” I groaned. “Shut up, Jess. I haven’t seen a man like him before. He looked like a model from a Calvin Klein ad—beyond perfect.” Jessica wiggled her eyebrows. “Oh, Izzy, I think you have a crush on him.”
“Please, Jess.” I rolled my eyes. “I like Ryan. I’m not going to cheat on him. And it was nighttime—I probably didn’t see him properly. For all I know, he could be an old man.” We both burst into laughter. “Okay, I’m going to bed,” I said, standing up. “We have college tomorrow, and I don’t want to be late.” “Goodnight, lover girl,” Jessica teased. I threw a pillow at her and went to my room.
Next morning
The annoying beep of my alarm woke me at 7:30 AM. Groaning, I dragged myself out of bed and headed to the bathroom. After a long, warm shower, I threw on a black top and blue shorts. When I went downstairs, Jessica was sipping her coffee. “Morning,” she greeted me with a smile. “Damn, you’re looking hot. Ryan’s lucky.” I smirked. “Haha, thanks, bub.” After breakfast, Jess and I headed to college. Ugh, the schedule was packed today—ethics, entrepreneurship, idea generation, business strategy, and marketing. Kill me now. During the break, I spotted Ryan. His face was covered in bruises. My stomach twisted with guilt. I walked up to him. “Hey… How are you feeling now?” Ryan gave me a small smile. “I’m okay now, baby.” He kissed my cheek. “I’ll see you later.” Then he walked off. I sighed. Maybe everything would go back to normal soon.
Jessica grabbed my hand. “Come on, let’s go.” Later that afternoon, a senior from the social club announced an upcoming pool party. Jessica’s face lit up. “We have to go!” I groaned. “Do we, though?” “Yes! Ryan will be there, and I refuse to let you stay home like a grandma.” I sighed. “Fine.” After class, Jess and I went shopping for the party. The mall was packed, but we had fun trying on different outfits. Jessica picked a red bikini. “This one’s perfect for me!” I picked a black one-piece. “I’m not showing too much skin.” Jessica rolled her eyes. “You’re no fun.” We grabbed some accessories and left. When I got home, I collapsed onto my bed. Tomorrow was my day off, and I was going to enjoy it.
Next morning
The next morning, Jess yanked my blankets off. “Wake up! The party’s tonight!” I groaned. “Jess, let me sleep.” “Nope! We have to get ready.” I sighed, knowing there was no escape. Tonight was going to be interesting, whether I liked it or not.
