Luca's POV

As I unfolded the blood-stained letter, my hands trembled. My heart pounded so loudly in my chest that it drowned out everything around me. The words on the paper blurred as realization sank in. I failed. I failed to protect the love of my life. I failed to keep Isabelle safe. Images of her laughter, the warmth of her touch, and the way her eyes lit up when she smiled flashed through my mind, tormenting me. The emptiness of the room suddenly felt suffocating, as if the walls were closing in on me. She was gone. Taken right under my nose. My wolf, Zydus, remained silent, but I could feel his rage boiling beneath the surface. He was restless, filled with anger and grief, just like me. How did I let this happen? I ignored all the signs—the attacks, the warnings. I thought I had time. But I was wrong. I was so wrong.

“Alpha, are you okay?” Eric, my Beta, asked hesitantly. I clenched my fists. No, I wasn’t okay. I was furious, heartbroken, and ready to burn the world to the ground to get Isabelle back. Zydus growled in my mind. "Don’t worry, Luca. We will bring our mate back. They will pay for this. Whoever did this, I will tear them apart limb by limb. I will bring hell upon them." I inhaled sharply, forcing myself to regain control. I couldn’t afford to lose myself to emotions now. I needed to act. I pushed off the floor, standing tall. My body ached with tension, but my resolve had never been stronger. "They took her, Eric," I said coldly.

Eric’s expression darkened. “Who?” "That’s what we need to find out. Call the pack meeting in an hour. But first, I want to question the staff. Bring them to me." My voice was void of any warmth. “Yes, my king.” Eric nodded before storming out. I didn’t wait. I marched downstairs, my steps heavy with anger. As I reached the living room, I saw Camellia standing with the other warriors. They were all waiting, their faces filled with unease. When I entered, they bowed immediately. "You two—step forward," I commanded, pointing at the maid and the chef. Their faces went pale with fear as they hesitantly stepped forward, their bodies trembling. “Alpha, we didn’t do anything. Please, have mercy,” the maid pleaded. My voice was ice cold. “Do you know who the girl that lives here is?” Their eyes darted to each other before looking down. “Y-Yes, Alpha. She is your mate. Our Luna,” the chef stammered.

“And what were my orders regarding her?” Silence. “Answer me!” I roared. “You told us to protect her no matter what!” The chef blurted out. “And what did you do?” “We—we tried, Alpha! We told Luna to hide, but she refused. She told us to hide,” the maid sobbed. "And you fucking listened to her?!" I seethed. "She’s a human! You’re werewolves! Who should be protecting who?!" My chest heaved with fury. "Alpha, please—" “Camellia, take them away.”

“No, Alpha! Please have mercy!” the maid cried. "Get out of my sight," I spat, turning away. They scurried off like rats. Now, my attention turned to the warriors. The ones who were supposed to guard my home. The ones who let my mate be taken. “You… all of you,” I said, my voice dangerously low. “You let them take her.” The warriors stiffened, eyes cast downward in shame. "My king, we didn't expect—" "You didn't expect?" I snapped. "You expect nothing less than perfection when it comes to protecting what’s mine! Now, who’s responsible?” One of the warriors swallowed hard before stepping forward. “Alpha, I can explain—” "Explain what? That you failed?” I stepped closer, my rage suffocating the room. “Alpha, they came out of nowhere. We couldn’t react in time. It was like they knew everything—the security, the weak spots. They planned it perfectly,” he admitted, bowing his head.

My blood boiled. “Are you telling me I have a traitor in my pack?” “We don’t know, Alpha. But… there were three of them. They knew exactly what to do.” I clenched my fists. "You were ten. They were three." Silence. "Alpha, the cameras were destroyed too. Whoever did this was a mastermind,” another warrior added. I growled lowly. “Then find them. Now. Or you will regret the day you failed me.”
