1. Yes or maybe no

"... a play?" Luan asks and tilts his head, equally confused by a request from a regular customer at the coffee shop he worked at, and slightly uncomfortable to be asked to see said customer outside of work.

"Well, yes. It's been in the works for a couple months now and we're about ready to start on casting. You seemed interested when I mentioned my work to you before, am I wrong?" The customer, Mr. Wilder asked, gripping his coffee cup as though uncomfortable.

"That's because it's my job to seem interested in order to get a tip." Luan thought to himself, "plus I have a thing for you, Mr. Wilder. Of course I'd try to get on your good side."

Luan glanced behind Mr. Wilder to see if there were any waiting customers and seeing that there were none he sighed.

He thought for a moment but sensing Mr. Wilder's eyes on him he quickly hid his blush and grabbed a piece of notepaper. Scribbling his number on it he handed it over.

"Text me the details at this number and I'll let you know my decision." Luan said and Mr. Wilder smiled and Luan returned it.

"Thank you for your consideration." The former said and walked off.

Luan sighed and excused himself to the back for a breather.

I should've just said no. Between school and work I barely have time for anything. But...

Picturing Mr. Wilder's shy face when he'd asked me to audition for his play was cute. Plus the fact that not once had Luan had a successful attempt at getting to know anything about him; it seemed too perfect. And Mr. Wilder had initiated it too! Maybe it would all work out.

Luans coworker Casey walked by and waved him to the front. He straightened his apron and walked onto the floor.

Mr. Thoma Wilder walked down the street with his coffee, now growing cold, but he hardly noticed. He was upset. He made his way to his car and angrily threw away his untasted coffee, spilling it across his hand and the trash can.

"Fucking fantastic," he grumbled and shut his car door harshly before leaning on the wheel.

Seven years ago Thoma was once an up and coming director. He was now a 31 year old man, a failed director with a failed marriage, working for an accounting firm. He hated the work but it was all he could manage to get after assaulting the man his wife was having an affair with.

Eight months ago Thoma's best friend had convinced him to rediscover his passion for directing, though he hid his true intention by merely asking for help keeping his theatre running.

Thoma has refused his friend more times than he could count but his mundane daily life was taking its toll and eventually he gave in. It's not like anything could get any worse.

A call rang through and Thoma picked it up.

"Hey Tommy, you on your way to work?" His best friend Charlie said through the phone.

"Yeah, I just stopped for coffee."

"Oh at that newer coffee shop you've been going to the past couple months? We should go together sometime," Charlie said cheerily but Thoma remained silent and stared at the number of the barista he'd talked to every day for the last couple months.

"I don't even know that kids name," Thoma thought to himself.

"Umm, so," Charlie continued through the phone, "you find anybody to audition for the play?"

Thoma sighed. "Not really."

"I can't believe I asked him to audition. I'm so embarrassed." Thoma cringed.
