Play practice had been put on hold until Thoma could return. However, being that the set had been destroyed (though Charlie had thankfully told everyone it had been troublesome kids) everyone involved in the play volunteered to spend the time they couldn't spend on practicing the play to rebuild the set.
Thoma was working from home, his work having found clients and paperwork he could take care of outside of the office. Because he was busy most of the day in his home office, Luan spent more time outside of the apartment.
He would go to the theater after class to help out. He always made sure to be back by dinnertime though in order to spend the rest of the day with Thoma. He still worked at the coffee shops on the weekend but always requested morning shifts in order to spend the majority of his days with Thoma.
Two months passed like this and finally Thoma was able to get his wrist cast off, though he was still required to wear a wrist brace. Charlie had insisted he be in charge of all of Thoma's hospital visits and Luan let him. Thoma wasn't needy but having to care for someone for such a long time was starting to wear Luan down.
Luan was busy studying when he heard the door open and shut. He walked out and was surprised to see Thoma standing upright with crutches under his arm. He smiled brightly when he met Luan's eyes and strode over to him, though Charlie followed close behind him in case he should fall.
"Isn't this great Lu?!" He said enthusiastically and Luan nodded. "No more wheelchair bumping into everything." He exclaimed with glee and meandered his way into the kitchen.
"The doctor didn't seem as enthusiastic about Thoma asking for crutches the day he gets his wrist out of a cast. But Thoma kept insisting that it was simply the better option." Charlie explained while both Luan and him watched Thoma struggle to independently grab himself something from the fridge.
Luan looked at the time on the stove and grumbled. He'd completely forgotten to prepare dinner and he was sure Thoma was hungry, hence the scavenging through the fridge. "I'm so sorry, Thoma. I completely lost track of time and I have nothing prepared for dinner." Luan sighed and Thoma turned around to him, having just stuffed an apple into his mouth.
"That's alright, Lu. Why don't we just order in tonight?" He said and leaned against the counter to steady himself while he ate.
Luan got out his phone to search for something they'd both like. "Won't you stay and have dinner with us this time?" Luan asked Charlie. Without sparing a glance to Thoma, Charlie nodded. "Sounds good. I feel like I never see you outside of the theater anymore."
They both turned to Thoma who was at the counter pouting but Luan gave him a look which made him straighten up and in turn made Charlie crack up.
They settled on burgers and Charlie set to work making drinks for them all (carefully instructed by Thoma) while they waited. After the food arrived they all set down on the couch and Charlie entertained them through dinner by sharing his crazy stories of traveling abroad.
After dinner, Charlie made another round of drinks. Luan sat close to Thoma who had his arm leisurely draped around his shoulders and Charlie set them on a game of 'two truths and a lie'.
"Okay I'll go first," Charlie said, "I spent the night in a Turkish prison, I've been bitten by a shark, and I have a tattoo on my ass." He said and Luan laughed out loud, heavily influenced by the strong drinks Charlie had prepared.
He felt Thoma's hand around his waist and Luan, now brave from the alcohol, leaned into Thoma's side. Charlie glanced at them and couldn't quite hide his smirk.
"Well, which one is the lie?" Charlie asked and Luan quickly answered, "The shark biting your ass," He said and fell into a fit of giggles.
Thoma pulled him closer and kissed his head before answering, "The Turkish prison. I don't think you've ever mentioned visiting Turkey."
"Both wrong. I don't have a tattoo on my ass. Finish your drinks, both of you," Charlie said and Luan downed his quickly before offering the empty glass to Thoma.
Thoma grabbed Luan's glass and offered it to Charlie, "Fill this with water for him, will you?"
As Charlie was filling Thoma's glass he heard Luan loudly exclaiming, "No water. I want another sweet drink, please." Charlie chuckled. He had no idea they were this close already, but it was Thoma's first real relationship in six years. Charlie figured Thoma was letting out all his long held in emotions.
When he returned Luan's glass to him, the latter downed the drink just as quickly as his previous drink. He offered the cup back to Charlie. "More alcohol, if you please," He said but Charlie found himself looking to Thoma for permission.
Luan noticed this and covered Thoma's eyes, for unknown reasons. "He's not in charge of me. Plus it's Saturday tomorrow and I don't work." Luan reasoned and Charlie obliged.
After returning with Luan's drink, Charlie waved to both of them. "Your turn now."
"Okay me." Luan volunteered and set to thinking of his choices. "Okay, okay. I am 24 years old," He said proudly, though both Charlie and Thoma obviously knew that was the truth, "I have lived in Canada and I have never told a single one of my boyfriends that I loved them," He said finally and looked to Thoma with his eyebrows raised.
The obscurity of his statements left both Thoma and Charlie speechless. "C'mon," Luan pulled at Thoma's arm, "You have to guess or you have to drink," Luan said and Charlie heard Thoma softly say, "You never lived in Canada."
"You are right, my handsome friend," Luan said and hugged Thoma's arm while cuddling into his side.
Charlie wanted to comment that he hadn't guessed but the whole situation that had unfolded before him left him speechless.
"Okay Thoma, its your turn now," Luan said and Thoma grinned at him.
Thoma offered his empty glass to Charlie who went to refill another drink for him. He felt like he could understand Tommy's thoughts just by looking at his face. And his face when Luan had said the word 'boyfriends' plural had really struck a nerve with him. Tommy had already admitted his feelings of inferiority that came with knowing that Luan had been with someone else. But to now understand that it was multiple boyfriends, he could only imagine just how insecure Tommy was feeling.
It appeared that Luan was trying to pry Tommy's 'two truths and a lie' out of him and Charlie was regretting started the game when they were drunk.
"Okay, okay let me get my drink first," Thoma said and reached to grab it from Charlie.
"First..." Thoma started, "I've never been on a boat, I'm allergic to bananas and..." He paused and pulled Luan back to his side to whisper his last fact or lie to him.
"I want you to officially be my boyfriend."
