"I want you to officially be my boyfriend," Thoma had whispered into his ear.
Luan's breath hitched and a coughing fit followed. Charlie ran to get him water and Thoma rubbed his back until he could breathe normally.
"I, umm.. well," Luan started but he didn't want to discuss this in front of Charlie, who appeared to get the hint. "I'm just gonna head to the bathroom," Charlie excused himself.
Luan turned to Thoma, who was watching his face and looking at him longingly. "Are you sure you wanted to be officially a 'boyfriend'?" Luan asked and Thoma tilted his head in question. "I mean are you sure that you're ready to be seen, ya know. Out and about with-with me. I just want you to be sure." Luan finished and looked down at his hands.
Thoma grabbed his folded hands and kissed them before raising Luan's eyes to meet his. "It's all I've been thinking about since you moved in here to help me."
"You waited a loooong time," Luan said and he was trying to stay focused on their important discussion while his brain was fuzzy from the alcohol. "I like you a lot.. and you said you liked me too but then, whoosh!" Luan smacked his hands together, startling Thoma. "You didn't do anything about it."
"I was trying not to overwhelm you, Lu. You have a lot going on and... maybe we should just discuss this tomorrow when we're both 100% sober." Thoma said and Luan nodded but cuddled once more into Thoma's side.
"Drunk or not my answer will always be yes. I'd love to be your boyfriend." Luan said and closed his eyes. He had gotten tired abruptly.
Charlie came out of the bathroom and saw Luan sleeping on Thoma's shoulder. Thoma was softly moving strands of hair from his face and he looked back to Charlie with a soft smile.
"You finally ask him out then?" Charlie asked in a whisper and Thoma nodded.
"Let me put him to bed and then we can talk comfortably." Thoma whispered back.
Thoma's smiling face dropped when he realized he could be of no help to Luan with crutches and a broken leg. Charlie came quickly to Luan's side and picked him up. "I'll just lay him on his bed real quick."
After covering Luan with his comforter, Charlie shut his door and sat opposite of Thoma on the couch. "So, how've things been?" Charlie asked and Thoma shook his head.
"I don't even know where to start.." Thoma mumbled and took a sip of his drink.
"Okay well, I can just start by telling you what's been going on with me then," Charlie said.
They stayed up until 4 am catching up. Thoma was able to put himself to bed alone for the first time in two months, though the process was rough and he was winded by the time he finally got to bed.
He didn't wake up until 1 pm the next day and it took him around 30 minutes just to get to the bathroom, brush his teeth and finally make it into the kitchen.
Thoma didn't see Luan studying on the couch or at the counter and called to him but he was met with silence. With a frown he walked his way to the counter to see if perhaps Luan left him a note near the coffee machine. It had become a little habit of there's to leave notes for one another rather than texting.
There was in fact a note but Thoma set it aside just to quickly make himself a coffee, which Luan had already prepped for him.
While his coffee was brewing he leaned against the counter to read his note.
Thoma - I was called into the police station again for further statements concerning Mikey. Shouldn't take more than a few hours. Text me what you might be craving for dinner and I'll pick up ingredients on the way back.
To my handsome boyfriend, sincerely yours - Lu
P.S. I prepped you some coffee and there's a croissant in the fridge I got from the coffee shop this morning. Just needs warmed
"To my handsome boyfriend."
Thoma read and re-read the note and kissed it lightly. There was still a lot he needed to discuss with Luan but the thought of today being the first day as boyfriends excited him so much.
A few hours later Thoma was reading a book on the couch when he heard the passcode being typed in. He wanted to hurry and greet Luan at the door but he just managed to stand up by the time Luan came in. His hands were full of grocery bags and he had just set them down when he noticed Thoma on the couch.
"Oh good you're up," Luan said and slipped his shoes off carefully. As he hung up his coat, Thoma was slowly making his way over to him.
Thoma leaned against the wall and opened his arms for a hug. Luan hugged him and Thoma kissed his head. "How was your day? I see you've been reading," Luan said and pointed to Thoma's glasses resting on his nose. He slipped them off and lightly kissed Thoma.
"I didn't wake up till after lunchtime but I thank you for the coffee and the croissant. What a great boyfriend you are," Thoma said with a wide grin and Luan blushed.
"Let me put these groceries away and I can tell you everything about my trip to the police station."
Luan walked into the kitchen and set everything on the counter and Thoma followed him, leaning against the counter and offering things to Luan to be put away.
"I was surprised you were gone for so long today. What time did you leave?" Thoma said and began to wash off some grapes Luan had purchased and began snacking on them.
"They called me around 11-ish, I think. But I didn't leave here till about 12:30. I did check on you this morning when I got up and before I left, groped you a little too, but you were dead to the world." Luan said.
Thoma almost choked on the grape in his mouth. "Gr-groped me? How?" Thoma prodded and tried to pull Luan towards him but having finished putting away the groceries, he quickly ran into the family room.
"Now that's just cruel.." Thoma teased and tried to get to to him but Luan giggled and jumped over the couch to the other side.
"C'mon," Thoma whined, "I just want to cuddle my boyfriend."
Luan came around the couch and lightly pushed Thoma onto it, plopping beside him and tucking his feet under him as he cuddled into Thoma's chest. Thoma held him close and ran his fingers through his hair and peppered his face with kisses.
"So tell me what happened at the police station," Thoma said quietly and Luan simply 'hmmmed' in answer. He felt so completely at peace that he just wanted to take a moment to relax in his boyfriends arms.
"Have we given them sufficient evidence? I mean you went to them right after my accident with information and they're only just now calling you back in? Seems to take a long time to get anything done," Thoma said and Luan nodded.
"Hey, Thoma?" Luan asked in almost a whisper. "Can we talk about this later. I kinda just want to sit here with you without having to talk about Mikey."
"Of course, Lu. Let's just sit here, just us."
