56. Lucy

Thoma woke up to the sound of meowing on the floor beside his bed. He felt delusional as he looked down and saw a tiny kitten staring up at him, the cadence in its meows becoming louder as it saw he was finally awake. 

What the fuck am I even seeing right now?

He stepped out of bed carefully and the kitten immediately began to crawl around his feet, following his every move as he made his way to the bathroom. Thoma rubbed his eyes tiredly and almost tripped on the new array of cat stuff all around his bathroom. 

"What the fuck?" Thoma said, the events of last night starting to filter back in. 

"Luan!" Thoma called, hoping that Luan was still here and would be able to shine some light on last nights events. 

Luan hurried into Thoma's room. He found Thoma completely naked, save his underwear, holding Lucy in his hands. Luan thought he looked like a model strangely and couldn't help but pull out his phone to take a picture of his boyfriend and his new baby.

Thoma extended Lucy to Luan. 

"That's Lucy. You adopted her last night." Luan explained and took her from Thoma's hands.

"Lucy.." Thoma mumbled and ran his hand through his hair. "Yeah it's kind of coming back to me."

Luan could only laugh. "Are you heading to the theatre today?" 

Thoma sighed and nodded. "Yeah, the play is this weekend so we just have to do the final run throughs."

Luan nodded and began to scratch behind Lucy's ears. "I'll stay here to watch Lucy while you're gone. I don't have to be back in class till Monday." 

Thoma looked at Lucy in Luan's hands and moved to come pet her. He seemed deep in thought but only said, "alright."

Luan sat on the bed as Thoma got ready for work and as Luan held Lucy and waved Thoma goodbye, he couldn't help feeling like a wife bidding his husband goodbye for the day. 

"We are kinda like a little family, huh?" Luan said and scratched Lucy's chin. It only meowed in answer and Luan realized he hadn't fed it yet. Luan set to work testing what kind of food Lucy could eat and it seemed it was still too little for solid foods. He warmed up some milk and left it for Lucy while he tidied Thoma's bathroom and set up a little corner of Thoma's bathroom for the kitten. He decided to make an appointment for Lucy to first off, find out its gender and to also get it up to date on its shots and such. 

After he hung up his phone began to buzz and he looked down to see a call from Charlie coming through. "Hey Charlie, what's up?" 

"Hey Lu. I have the day off and was wondering what Thoma and you were up to today." Charlie said.

"Oh, Thoma just left for work and then he said he'd be at the theatre tonight so he'll be gone all day," Luan explained. 

"Oh alright. Cool if I come over to hang out with you?" Charlie asked and Luan was hesitant. "That wouldn't be weird for you?" Luan asked half jokingly.

 "Umm, no? Plus I wanted to come see the kitten Thoma adopted yesterday," Charlie admitted and Luan laughed. "Sure, of course you can come."

After hanging up Luan decided to tidy up. It felt weird to have Thoma's best friend coming over to hang out at an apartment that wasn't even his. But he'd never hung out with just Charlie so Luan saw it as a good opportunity to get to know about Thoma and Charlie himself.

Luan shot Thoma a text just to keep him in the loop, though it felt like a cheap shot considering how Thoma had kept so much from him when they were apart.
