That night the two mostly stayed up talking and stargazing before slowly drifting off to sleep in each others warm embrace. They were going to take full advantage of these next couple of days before heading off to heavens arena. Being together and not having to worry, even if only for a few days. Sure they could reminisce about the past, and miss the people they used to know, but they didn't want to go back. If they did they'd go back to their families, abusive families. Here they were free, strong, and they had a feeling they would scarcely be board. This world was absolutely perfect for them. This is where they belonged.
The next morning they were woken up by a mischievous giggling coming from beside their hammock. Before they were flipped Shoto and Katsuki each grabbed a wrist and pulled Gon and Killua into the hammock with them. "Whaaa?!" Gon let out in surprise, and Killua just squeaked at the sudden action, and Katsuki shut both of them dowm before they could begin protesting "Quit your yapping! You decided to try and cause trouble now you have to face the consequences." Gon thinking it was something bad, but also thought that conclusion was fair, just pouted. Killua being his canonically sassy self spoke up not thinking it was fair "Why! We didn't even actually do anything!!" "No but you were about to" Shoto said taking the opportunity to interject after feeling left out. "He's right, and as your punishment you have to stay here with us until we're ready to get up." Katsuki said snuggling into Shoto and hugging the boys on top of them closer. "That's all?" Gon asked pleasantly surprised, and receiving a strike to the head "Idiot! Don't say that they might make this worse!" "We will if you don't shut up and lay down" Katsuki growled. Immediately both boys were quiet and still. The four of them slowly drifted back to sleep all cuddled together enjoying each others company and warmth.
When it was eerily quiet considering Gon was home, Mito went to make sure everything was alright. When she couldn't find them in the house, she went outside and over to the hammock she had given Katsuki and Shoto hoping they would know where the boys were. She was surprised to see all of them cuddled up together. Not waisting the opportunity, she went to get her camera, quickly snapped a picture of them, then decided to wake them up for lunch. Gently swinging the hammock she said "Boys, it's time to get up. I've made food!" Katsuki was the first to wake up. "mmm, we'll be there in 5 minutes" He said in a groggy voice while rubbing his eyes. Mito thought it was cute so she instinctively went to pat his head, but was worried when he flinched. She immediately stopped moving her hand toward him, but kept it there. After Katsuki was able to asses the situation he leaned into the still present hand and allowed her to touch him. Mito noted that he acted like a scarred kitten. Not wanting to make him to uncomfortable she made the bought of affection short, and left saying, "Five minutes". After she left he woke up more, and got the others up. "Hm? What?" Gon asked sitting up slightly killua already sitting up and rubbing his eyes. "Lunch is ready, and Mito said we have 5 minutes, well about 3 now." With that jumped up and out of the hammock ushering everyone to quickly follow him while explaining it's never good to let Mito's timer run out.
Stepping inside, they were greeted by the smell of a delicious lunch wafting through the house. It was an experience Katsuki, Shoto, and Killua all longed for. The feeling of home.
The boys all sat around the table and enjoyed the delicious home cooked meal. They new it'd be one of the last they'd have for a while. They were planning on leaving for trick tower first thing tomorrow morning. After that they'd have to figure out their food situation for themselves. Everyone was so busy enjoying the meal that nobody was talking, but instead stuffing their faces. Mito not liking the social silence, decided to get conversation rolling. "You three look like you haven't ever had a home cooked meal before." She said trying to get to know a little bit more about them, and their home lives, especially after seeing Katsuki flinch not even 20 minutes ago. Killua was the first to speak up, "I've had home cooked meals but I usually had to eat them by myself. My siblings and parents are always busy, and the butlers aren't allowed to eat with me on my fathers orders." "Oh? Why would your father make you eat alone?" Mito said getting somewhere. "Well him and my older brother always tell me I'm not capable of making friends, and tried to limit my contact with people as much as possible. They were obviously wrong though" He said motioning to the others at the table, "and they kept me locked up because they knew they were wrong" Killua said with a shrug like it was no big deal. Shoto was the next to speak up. "The last home cooked meal I ate with my family ended in my father telling me and my sibling we were all failures, my mom pouring hot water on my face" he said motioning to his scar, "And then her getting dragged of to a mental hospital." Shoto kept his monotone voice the whole time, but he ate and spoke so matter of factly, it was like it didn't bother him.
The last to share was Katsuki. They were all interested in what he had to say, but Shoto was the most invested. He knew Katsuki and knew he had feelings for him. And while he'd say he knew Katsuki better then most, he still didn't know much. "I've never had a home cooked meal, unless me making it in my house counts." He said thinking that was sufficient enough. One glance around the table though said otherwise, as he was met with curious stares. Huffing he continued. "It was just me and my mom, my dad died on the way to the hospital the day I was born. My mom just barely raised me before she couldn't take it anymore and started drinking. I had to learn how to live on my own. I am self taught in a lot, including cooking. I did my best and always made sure me and my mom had something to eat. If it wasn't to her liking though I usually got a beer bottle to the head, or a cigaret burn, sometimes a broken rib or two." The table was silent. "Listen I don't want your pity. I don't mind that part of my life because it made me the badass I am today. Not to mention how strong I am because of it!" The mood was quickly changed at his little speech. It was uplifting and hopeful, especially to Killua, who hadn't full escaped yet.
The next morning they all said their goodbyes to Mito and Gon's grandma, setting off for heaven's arena. Gon and Killua being the most pumped about the whole idea of heaven's arena, while Katsuki and Shoto were curious about how it would be. They had never participated in anything like this before, except once at the sports festival. Any other time something like this was going on in their world, it was deemed immoral and illegal, resulting in the pros shutting it down.
After a couple days of traveling they finally arrived. In a bout of excitement at the idea of fighting strong opponents, Katsuki couldn't help but yell. "I'M GOING TO SEND ALL YOU EXTRAS STRAIGHT TO HELL!!! HAHAHAHA" He let out a manic laugh at the end that scared passer by's, confused Gon, and made Killua concerned. Shoto on the other hand couldn't help but admire Katsuki's crazy battle cry. He didn't realize how much he missed it!
