Chapter 5: Audition Competing

After Crowley leaves the cafeteria, Briar and the others look at the flier for any more instructions on how to audition for the contest.

Ace reads, "'The audition song is 'Piece of My World.'' 'To apply, contact Rook Hunt in Class 3-A.'"

Then becomes excited, "This sounds rad, actually! I figured we sports clubs would be stuck doing all the heavy lifting behind the scenes, but I guess not! You guys wanna give this a whirl? If we make it in, we'll be excused from all the back-breaking work of putting the venue together. Sounds like a win-win to me."

"If we won, the extra income would make a HUGE difference in my family's quality of life..." Deuce says, "But hold on. I'm decent at athletics, but I've never danced or sung before.

Then Ace says "'Piece of My World' was a crazy popular song last year. There're tons of Magicam tutorial videos that go over how to do the dance moves and stuff. If the moves are simple enough, we could get those down pat in no time."

Grim grows excited, "Myah! You've been browsin' Magicam a lot ever since you got that phone, Briar."

"You're right. We've been hearing that song as well," Briar says.

"I heard the song too and it's really catchy. No wonder it's popular," Jasper says.

Then Grim says, "Okay, I'm gonna practice for my audition!"

"Your dancing will definitely catch interest, one way or another," Briar says, and giggles.

However, Deuce sheepishly says, "Count me out. I don't think I'd pass the screening even if I tried."

"Aw, you're no fun," Ace says.

Then Deuce, For one thing, I don't think it's appropriate to audition on a lark when you're not serious about gunning for the top spot."

"It's just an audition. You don't have to take it so seriously," Ace says.

"Heh. For another thing, you guys will need a shoulder to cry on when you completely bomb it," Deuce says.

Ace quickly says, "Hey, don't act like that's a given! I'll pass, just you watch!"

"Yeah! That prize money and the ensuing tuna are as good as mine!" Grim says.

"Sure, whatever you say," Deuce says.

Grim turns to the others and asks, "Hey are you guys going to audition?"

"No thank you, I'm not that good at dancing," Tanzanite answers.

"Nah. Not really my thing," Jasper says.

Sereia nervously says, "I don't think I can handle being on the stage. It sounds too scary."

"Yeah. I think you would either be frozen in terror or run away crying," Grim says.

Insulted, Sereia says, "I'm not!"

Tanzanite then turns to Briar, "What about you, Briar?"

"I don't know. I mean, it will be fun to sing and dance since I like to sing and dance, but I'm not sure," Briar says.

Then Grim says, "You should totally try out. You're kind of a good dancer."

"But you're a really great singer," Jasper says.

"Really? Briar sings?" Ace asks.

"Yeah. Briar is a really great singer. We sometimes hear sing when she cleans or when she sits outside," Sereia says.

Even Trinket vouch for it.

Flashback:

During one of the cleaning, Sereia and Grim walk down the hall to check Briar who is cleaning up one of the rooms. Suddenly, they begin to hear humming coming from the boys' room. Grim and Sereia walk in to see Briar fixing the beds and humming a tune. Soon, Briar begins to sing.

Briar:

Any gift to him is one I'm happy to be giving

Counting down the days till the big surprise

Just to see the look in his eyes

Briar fixes both of the beds and then places the pillows on it neatly and has a smile on her face.

Briar:

When you love someone

Really love someone

There's nothing that you wouldn't do

Then Briar cleans the windows, and dust the window stills. As Briar sings, Grim and Sereia watch. Just then, Tanzanite, Jasper, and Trinket take a peek to see Briar singing and dancing in the room.

Briar:

When you love someone

Like I love someone

Then Briar begins twirling with glee.

Briar:

You want all his dreams to come true

Then Briar picks up a broom that's been sitting against the wall.

Briar:

Oh, how it satisfies

Just to see the look

In his eyes

And with that, Briar begins to sweep the floor in the room.

Flashback:

"Wow. That's actually pretty impressive," Ace says.

"Indeed. I never knew you could sing and dance. I actually like to see it myself," Deuce says.

Ace grins, "Yeah. You should try out. Who knows, you might actually get a spot in the snow."

"I don't know. Mainly because well, won't it be weird if only one girl ends up dancing with a bunch of boys. And this is supposed to be an all boys school," Briar explains.

"Hmm, you may have a point," Ace says.

"But still, it wouldn't hurt for you to try out. I sure like to hear you sing," Deuce says.

Then Deuce remembers, "Oh, we have Potionology next period, right? I'm on class duty today. I need to go get the lab and equipment prepped soon. I don't have time to stand around chatting. Let's go ahead and order our lunch."

"I second that! I'm still hungry over here!" Grim says with glee.

"Yeah. And it might give you some time to think about auditioning," Ace says to Briar.

"I'll think about it," Briar says.

Sometime later, after lunch, the group heads out of the cafeteria and into the courtyard.

"I just know I'm gonna get drowsy in class after stuffin' myself at lunch," Grim says, feeling sleepy.

"You'd better not nod off in the middle of an experiment and blow up another beaker," Ace says.

"Ace is right. We don't want to end up with another explosion," Sereia says.

Suddenly, they hear a voice, "Aaaoooaaah..."

"Mrah?" Grim yelps in surprise.

"What's that song?" Deuce asks.

"It sounds really nice," Sereia says.

"You're right, the song sounds really nice," Briar says.

Then Jasper looks over, "It came from over by the well."

The group decides to follow the sound and have a look. And to their surprise, they see someone singing into the well.

Then they hear the voice again, "AaaoooaaaACK!" But ends up choking, "Ugh!" and someone coughs.

"Whoa, that went from smooth to rough in a hurry," Ace says, a little surprised.

Suddenly, they hear someone say, "Mah singin's s'posed to sound charmin', but ah just can't do it..."

Suddenly, someone rustles in the bushes. Causing the boy to turn around in surprise.

The boy, is the student Epel and asks, in a startled tone, "Who's there?!"
