CHAPTER 1
WHERE THE LAND MEETS SEA

Sao'Nae and Rotxo fought in the water while jumping over one another, forcing each other under the waves and enjoying the sun washing over their skin. Rotxo grabbed the girl by the back of the neck and directed her forward, practically shoving her face first into the sea. Had she been anyone else they might've been shocked by his sudden actions. Not her though.

The competitive girl got up quick, " You'll pay for that, moron!" She yelled, turning quickly and tackling him, slithering to be behind him and wrapping her legs around his torso, loosely putting him in a sleeper hold, " Surrender!" She ordered with a deep jeer. One unlikely for a young girl of her age.

" Never!" Rotxo replied while smiling, flipping her over his head.

Ass down in the water once again, might one add, the boy ducked down in order to avoid the fiery fists of Sao'Nae, " You're not very good at this, Tsahìk." He said with a taut, acknowledging the girl as the heir to the reef clan with a cheeky grin.

She rolled her eyes and stood back up slowly adjusting her dark blue dyed loincloth, glaring halfheartedly at her best friend. The two spent most days fighting one another, and like it or not, Rotxo was always there when she wanted or needed him, "You are annoying, Ro."

He smirked, "And you are incredibly weak, Nae-Nae."

At that very moment the warning horn blew in the distance, calling everyone to the center beach, breaking the two up from their wrestling in a moment's notice. Rotxo glanced at Sao'Nae in confusion to which the girl shrugged in turn, unsure as to why the chief was calling as well.

Faintly she tried to remember if perhaps she'd forgotten something, eventually deciding that could never be the case.

The two ducked under water and swam towards the beach, the one in front of Sao'Nae's parents hut, suddenly catching echoes of Ikran, something not too common in the reefs, battering of wings could be heard coming off the waves, only further egging everyone's curiosity. Sao'Nae's included.

Of course by the time she and Rotxo made it to the soft sand a family and their Ikran were already feet first in front of the Sao'Nae's parents. There was a man, a woman, two boys, and two girls. One of the boys instantly caught her eye, with his blue skin, dark braided hair that went to the base of his neck, two piercing yellow eyes, and a gaze so unwavering that everytime she glanced at it she felt her heart freeze and her stomach flip. He was handsome, and obviously he was from the forest. The Metkayina were never blue and they never looked so...

Lean.

Sao'Nae's eyes fell on the boy's tiny waists.

As if Rotxo could sense her drool-smacked gaze he scoffed and approached the boy's, unsure of which one she was truly looking at. He looked them up and down and snickered, " You call that a tail? It is so small!" He pestered, " Sao-Nae! Do you see their tiny tails?!" He asked, glancing over his shoulder at the girl, " How do you swim?" He said as he looked back.

Sao'Nae rolled her eyes, " Leave them alone Rotxo! Have you forgotten your manners so quickly?" She asked, giving him a disproving look and smacking his arm.

The two Omatikaya boy's didn't seem to like Rotxo's pestering very much, the eldest giving Sao'Nae a thankful look when she told him to stop. Though soon, Tsireya emerged from the water and also rolled her eyes at the teasing prankster, "Stop it, Rotxo." She demanded, and as she stepped aside the boy eased his bullying to just smiling and looking the two up and down.

The largest man stepped forward, his hands raised as if to signal he meant no harm, "We seek uturu." He said with authority clear in his voice. Sao'Nae knew that tone, it was the tone of a chief, she'd heard it many times when being lectured by Tonowari.
