CHAPTER 39
I WANNA BE YOURS

Once Ronal had taken as much of the fragmented bullet out of her little girl's body, she carefully sutured it up, leaving a rather glaring scar in the center of her stomach which was hidden by a thick bandage wrap and blanket.

Tonowari, Jake, and Neytiri had yet to return from battle, but everyone else had managed to come back to Awa'atlu basically unharmed. Neteyam refused to leave the tent for as long as Sao'Nae was inside, watching her closely and holding her hand tight in his own. He brought her pale knuckles to his lips and kissed them gently.

" C'mon Ma'Tanhì...please wake up." He begged, silent tears slipping down his cheek, ignoring the looks given to him by the girl's mother. He didn't care what she thought. He wasn't leaving her and he certainly wasn't going to care about refraining from caring for her in order to satisfy her ego. He loved Sao'Nae and he wasn't leaving her side, " We need to have that talk still..." He whispered.

Ronal sat across from him, her hands clenching a damp rag as she listened to the boy.

There was so much she wanted to say to him. So much that she wanted to yell at him. Because before he arrived in Awa'atlu, Sao'Nae was undeniably perfect. The next Tsahik of the Metkayina village, and then, he came along and put everything Ronal had been dreaming of on hold.

" When did you fall for my daughter?" Ronal suddenly asked, reaching out her hand and dapping away the sweat built of her babies forehead, " As far as I know, you and my daughter have almost nothing in common. She is the next Tsahik. You're not even supposed to be here in the reefs."

Neteyam looked up.

Who in there right mind asked someone that while the love of their life was possibly dying?

He shook his head, " Is this really necessary---"

" Yes." Ronal quickly chimed, " If you want to be with my daughter, yes it is."

Ao'nung rolled his eyes from the corner and grimaced, wanting nothing more than Sao'Nae to wake up and start screaming at her again. Typically that was his job, but now of days his big sister seemed much better at it than him...

Neteyam sighed, " I think I started falling for her the day I saw her come up on the beach with Rotxo..." He admitted,  " The moment I saw her defend me and my brother from Ao'nung and his...stupid...teasing." He chuckled softly, not even knowing sure why, " That's when it started, I think. Then it just started...getting worse. I saw her everywhere. In everything. I couldn't look at the ocean without wondering if Sao'Nae would like it as well, I couldn't live without her anymore. When she left to hunt for her birthday, I honestly thought I'd have a heart attack."

The Tsahik shook her head, " You're children. How do you know anything about love?"

" How do Tulkun know when it's time to migrate?" Neteyam asked, " It just feels right."

For a moment the room was silent. Neteyam reached out his hand and caressed Sao'Nae's face, a sad smile just barely on his lips, " If I could trade places with her, I would. I swear to Eywa I would."

Ao'nung finally propped himself up and covered Tsireya with a blanket, " You don't have to prove yourself, Neteyam." The boy assured, giving his mother a side eyed glance, " After this, Sao'Nae won't bother denying her feelings."

Ronal quickly glanced at her son, " You knew about these two?" She questioned ludicrously, as if she couldn't believe what she was hearing.

He nodded, jutting his chin forward, " Yeah, ma. I knew." He admitted, " But you'd be a fool if you didn't."
