CHAPTER 18
THE WAY OF THE VILLAGE

As soon as the words left Tonowari's mouth everyone got to work. The women giggled and laughed excitedly, talking frantically to one another before darting off and taking Sao'Nae's game to cook. The men all the meanwhile approached Sao'Nae in groups, one boy around her age grinning wildly, " It's alright, yuey. You've hunted well, and you deserve rest. Me and the other reef boys will build your fire, in tribute to our future Tsahìk." He assured, nodding respectively before backing away.

Sao'Nae looked around and couldn't help but feel proud of herself. Sure, the clan hunted Tsawl'kxa from time to time, especially if the young ones came too close to shore or attacked a child---but Sao'Nae had hunted it before she had turned 18 by herself. Even when the Awa'atlu warriors hunted the big mouthed creatures, they did it in packs. Not one on one, and certainly not two on one.

She smiled at the boy, " Thank you, Zxantsi'yuë."

Zxantsi nodded and allowed a small smirk to befall his face, not one of malicious intent or flirtation evident, but one that was just more so proud to have been recognized by name. Then he walked away with his friends, those who of which clapped him on the back with excitement that he'd spoken to the future Tsahìk, leaving Sao'Nae alone in the sand with the Sully's.

Jake and Neytiri walked over to Sao'Nae and smiled, none more excitedly that Neytiri herself. The woman was so happy in fact that her ears went down, the warmth of her kindness enough to end even the harshest of winters. She reached out her hand and carefully took Sao'Nae's within her own, patting the top of her palm and fighting the urge to laugh, " I hear you did good on your hunt, Sao'Nae." She mentioned, " I wanted to speak to you but it seemed you were too enveloped with my children."

Lo'ak and Kiri appeared to the right, the boy crossing his arms in an attempt to be intimidating, " As if, she only even spoke to Tuk and Neteyam."

Jake shot Lo'ak a look, " Boy, she was excited to see them. Besides, you were too busy holding pinkies with Tsireya to care. And as for Kiri she came out later than everyone else because she was in the hut. So no excuses."

Sao'Nae couldn't help but giggle and shake her head at the family's antics, " It's alright. Hello Lo'ak---" She raised her hands and began to sign, " Hopefully you've been practicing while I was gone, you're already skxawng."

Lo'ak gasped and quickly raised his hands, " I am not! You're so lucky my parents are here or else---"

" Or else what?" She asked, raising the skin of her brow.

The boy sighed, a smile beginning to break through, " Or else I'd actually say I missed you and your stupid lessons." He said, and as the word stupid fell from his lips Neytiri reached over and hit the back of his head. Lo'ak huffed while Sao'Nae laughed.

" I missed you too forest boy."

Neytiri smirked and shook her head, " So, Sao'Nae. What is going on today? What all needs done for this celebration?" She asked.

Sao'Nae crossed her arms and thought about the many things that needed to get done, " Considering the women just stole all my hunted meats I'd say they're getting ready to cook, and some of the young boy's offered to build my fire so I don't have to do that---"

Neteyam's head came out of nowhere, his eyes wide and his ears alert, " A group of young what offered what?"

The girl giggled, " Zxantsi'yuë and his friends said that they were proud of my hunt and would build my fire for me. Said I should rest."
