CHAPTER 28
HEARTS MELD

As promised, Neteyam and Sao'Nae snuck off later that night to finish their discussion. The one that Tsireya had so rudely interrupted hours previous. It was very much like the night Neteyam had taken Sao'Nae flying, sneaking in through her window and startling her to no end. He had held her hand near to his, leading and guiding her onto the sandy beaches that knew them so well.

As always there was a jovial light in Neteyam's eyes when he was with her, a light that was different when he siblings weren't present and relying on him to be the strong and stoic brother they knew him as.

" Keep up, Ma'Tanhì!" He laughed, ensuring she didn't fall as he grabbed the reigns to his Ikran, throwing them over the harness. The radiant Sao'Nae was far less afraid than she was last time, eagerly wrapping her arms around his teeny tiny waist.

Unlike Metkayina boys, Neteyam had a much smaller middle torso, even his ribcage was more lean and his body overall more like a hourglass than a triangle. It was a pleasant change. He justed seem so...fearless. Sao'Nae was beginning to notice him relax under her touch.

Sao'Nae grinned, " I am doing my best, Forest boy." She teased, " And be quiet! My mother will hear us!"

Neteyam rolled his eyes and darted off into the air, glancing over his shoulder, " She will not!" He assured, " I may or may not have planted the idea into my fathers head that he and your parents should talk. You know, since your ma hates me and all."

As if Sao'Nae were shocked, she gasped, leaning back slightly to try and sell her exasperation, " What? My mother does not---" She gave up halfway through, " Okay yeah maybe a little, but still!"

The two laughed and landed on rey'eng. Quickly climbing off of the screaming Banshee and rushing into the cave, ignoring all the darkness that wrapped them up like a blanket of ice. Just like last time Sao'Nae took the lead and gently led Neteyam through the twists and turns of the bioluminescent-less void, until finally they came up to the water pool in a hidden area of said cave.

When they came up on the much lighter more living side, they looked at each with childish smiles, climbing out the waves and stretching out across the rocks.

Neteyam smiled, " Now what?" He asked, knowing that up until this point they had no plan. Sao'Nae glanced up as she reigned out her curly hair, eyes wide and innocent.

" I don't know." She admitted.

Neteyam shifted his eyes across the room, trying not to meet the new warriors gaze. Faintly a flash of shame entered his eyes. Compared to her, his accomplishments in the Metkayina clan were slim. That ridiculous notion that if he were still in the Omatikiya clan that he'd be able to prove to her what a suitable mate he was. But then again, Sao'Nae has already expressed that she wished she could be his mate. That he could be her mate.

The silence was death gripping.

It was nearly enough to stall Neteyam's mind from wandering across her appearance. As always she wore those damned waist-beads and refused to tame her wild curls despite how much her mother begged her to do so...He was enthralled by her just as she was with him, though sometimes like a fool she tried to deny it, only letting her true thoughts out when alone with him. When she was already feeling heavy emotions was when she typically exploded.

" Did you mean what you said earlier?"

The words were like ice on his lava tongue, like sticky sweet sap from an ancient fruit tree. Sao'Nae played with her hands and rubbed her thumb over her knuckles anxiously.

She nodded, " I did." Of course she did. It was obvious that she remembered, the way he looked at her and slowly leaned in towards her forever burned into her mind.
