Viryn is from the Omaticaya clan of the rainforest. She is a skilled hunter and has earned the title of a warrior alongside her sister Merq'ena. They are both at the top of their classes when it comes to combat, hunting, gathering, and understand the cycle of energy. But Viryn personally focuses much of her time when not doing her duties to the clan on textiles which her clan is renowned for. In Na'vi culture or more specifically in the Omaticaya the ability to adorn yourself shows your rank. Viryn as the next Tsahik was expected to adorn herself with more detailed and in general more clothes. It lead her to enjoy making things for the many other orphans once they became of age. She is trained in the art of healing and knows nearly every single plant in her home jungle. Like Neytiri her wardrobe reveals her change from the Omaticaya to the Metkayina and how well she is taking to the change. She's much more nervous than Merq'ena and her mind goes to dangerous places if she is left to her own thoughts for a long time. She's fiercely protective of her family and is quick to lash out when she is angry.
Her relationship with Neteyam started out as a polite acquaintance. She only knew him as a capable person who she knew would carry his weight and more in the clan. Neteyam is the eldest son of the Toruk Makto so he obviously has large shoes to fill. In the eyes of the clan he does just that. But Viryn is not intimidated by his accomplishments and the two often compete against each other. Viryn is also an honoured member of the Omaticaya and her skills sometimes even best his. Viryn worries more about their social rankings. Both Merq'ena and Neteyam are much more extroverted than her and are greeted and stopped wherever they go. One of her worries is that when she is Tsahik she would not be able to connect to her people as the interpreter of Eywa should.

Merq'ena is a strong pillar in Viryn's life. They are best friends and consider each other family even if there is no blood relation between them. Merq'ena is a much more sociable person and was very well connected within their age group and beyond. She is looked to for her strength in battle that she earned though proving herself in sparring, hunting, and even combat. She tattoos herself with some help from Viryn with symbols that she wishes to never forget. Her tattoos vary from the great Hometree tattoo on her back to a small silhouette of the seeds of the tree of souls behind her ear. It is a source of pride for her and she looks to the thanator on her thigh as sort of her connection to her origin, the Anurai clan. The Anurai clan is an actual canon clan that revered the thanators as their animal. They were wiped out to become basically mercenaries and Merq'ena has no memory of her time in her ancestral home or her parents. She still does her best to keep true to her roots but still embraces the traditions of the Omaticaya as her own. Merq'ena's bow is sort of a reflection of her purpose. She sees it as a tool to gain vengeance on the Sky People and defend her new home. When she finds out the connection between Jake, her Olo'eyktan, and a scientist from the Sky People, Grace Augustine, she literally has her sense of purpose thrown out. She doesn't know who is her true friend or ally anymore. But when looks at the beetle wing charms she's reminded of friendship with Viryn and how the Omaticaya embraced and protected her. Then she carves a new bow from the wood of the fallen Hometree as all hunters that pass the rite do. She creates a new purpose for herself. She does not necessarily gives up on vengeance but she changes what she lives for to be on a more productive path.
The girl is more accepting to new things as she braves the world feet first. She accepts Grace's avatar faster than Viryn who even after a year is slightly freaked by it. Merq'ena thinks more tactically than Viryn, she focused on one thing at a time and finishes it before she continues to the next. Compared to Viryn she is much calmer but once she gets mad it is hard hitting.
