"Merq'ena!" The Na'vi girl jumped back at the sound of a gunshot. She stumbled back to the ground with a gasp of breath. Her hands went to her limbs and torso to feel for wounds or blood. A loud ringing in her ears as she shuffled backwards until her body pressed against the cold metal. "Merq'ena!" She perked up at her name and forced herself to sit up on her knees. Merq'ena gritted her teeth as she fell to her front limbs. Her legs still in shock. "Get a grip!" The girl snarled at herself while shaking her head. The clicking of shells echoing forcing her ears to hear anything else, but her heartbeat. Merq'ena quickly pushed off of the ground and rushed over to Lo'ak. With each step she grew more sure-footed and pulled away from that terrible memory. Still her hair stood on end, her shoulders pulled up to her ears. Pointedly refusing to look at the AMP suit. She reached out to him as if to be sure he was truly there. The boy's wife as he watched Spider and the human struggling, gripping each other's wrists. Lo'ak bounced on the balls of his feet, unsure when to jump in.
"Find Viryn and Kiri." Merq'ena ordered, her voice breathless. "Viryn? What is she doing-?" "Go!" Merq'ena nudged him away just as Spider and the marine turned a corner. The boy grappled with the man, struggling to barely keep him and his gun at bay. "You traitor!" The man spat at him, his breath fogging up the glass of the mask. Spider flinched his face back as if the spittle could reach him. The marine was stronger than him and managed to maneuver the boy against the wall. A hiss rumbled out of Spider's lips as his back slammed against his back. Merq'ena scowled at the lack of her bow and arrows, the situation would have been solved much easier. With just one clean shot.
They needed to try and stay as quiet as possible. They wouldn't be able to escape should the whole ship wake up to such ruckus. They had to move quickly but carefully. Viryn's wounds loudly pressed against her skull. The gorey sight of skin almost arching back with rotting edges with cold, metal roots. Her ears perked up as she blended into the dark shadows. A wheeze coming from the human boy paired with a thump. The Na'vi girl gritted her teeth as she stalked behind the man. Knees bent and a hand held out to keep her balance.
Spider was nearly thrown over the railing. Barely keeping his feet on the ground as he held fast to his larger and stronger opponent. They twisted and turned like coiling serpents, each fighting for control. Merq'ena met Spider's eyes. The slight surprise in them did not escape her insightful vision. She lifted her knife, the smooth surface shining under the light of a distant wall lamp, asking Spider to stay still. The boy grabbed onto the marine even tighter. His knuckles turning white from how hard he held on. Merq'ena adjusted her hold on her weapon as she silently rushed forward. One hand clamping over the marine's mouth and the other making sure he would keep his silence forever.
She felt the man go limp as she shoved it blade until its hilt pressed against his back. Spider stumbled back as he shoved the limp limbs off of him. His eyes wide and mouth ajar. Merq'ena smoothly pulled out the knife and slipped the body under the opening of the railing so that it slipped into the ocean. Hardly a mark of blood on the cement. "Come on, let's get back." She sheathed her knife casually while looking elsewhere. The scuffle would attract attention which would mean that lingering for much longer was a bad idea.
When she didn't hear a response she looked back to Spider. The shock and horror so clear on his human face. "Did you hear me?" She whispered again, her ears choosing between lowering or turning to him. "You killed him." Spider turned to her. That fear, it was fear of her. His eyes darted to the knife. Sitting almost innocently in its sheath like a child in their bed. Merq'ena swallowed. Was he going to cry? She didn't know what she would do if he cried. The Na'vi pushed her tongue to the roof of her mouth while pursing her lips.
With the ocean crashing beneath them it gave a false sense of serenity to the night. She could just grab him and not bother with it. He was human, you knock one down they keep coming back. But he saved her life. He could have run off with Lo'ak, do away with someone who made life difficult for him. She looked at him carefully. This time Spider truly did look small. No under layer of something that frightened her. He was just Spider. A scared Spider.
