Chapter 20

Devin's POV
Someone knocked on my door.

"Y-yeah?"

"It's me!"

"I-I asked you to stay away."

She opened my door and I saw she was wearing a mask. She was holding a plastic bag.

"I got you a new game. I figured, you'd like to play something new."

Don't walk over here.

She walked up to my bed.

"Oh no. Baby you're so pale."

I managed to smile.

"Y-you finally called me it."

She opened the plastic bag and pulled something out of it. She handed me a box. I looked at it and saw it was a collector's edition box of a video game, I was struggling to find.

"Y-you got me this?"

"Yeah. You kept talking about it."

"B-but it's the collector's edition. T-this is like $250. I-I thought...these sold out. Wait hold on."

I started coughing into my shoulder. Emilia started rubbing my back. I stopped coughing and felt worse.

"Sorry."

"Why?"

I shrugged.

"Anyway...why'd you get this and not the actual game?"

She sat down in front of me and crossed her legs.

"It was actually on sale. It was the last one and the employee was desperate to sell it."

"H-how much did it end up being?"

She took out the receipt.

"Uhhh. $100."

"No. You're lying."

She handed me the receipt.

"Someone's fired."

"Oh no. Nobody's getting fired. The manager helped me. Oh! I also used the gift card, Mari got me."

"You didn't have to."

She shrugged. I started opening it. I pulled out a figure in a plastic case. I opened it and took the figure out. I rubbed my eye.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing. I-I just don't feel good. Did you purposefully get this because, the figure's my favorite character?"

"Oh no. I actually forgot. Okay so, it comes with the DLC too. There's extra outfits, digital soundtrack, you can switch the soundtracks, I think, there's like 2 other guns. Anyway...d-do you like it?"

I started hugging her.

"I love you. Thank you."

"Anything for you. I love you too."

I went back to taking things out of the box. I pulled out an art book. I started going through it.

"Woah. This is really cool. Check this out. It's all the concept art for the game."

She started going through the art book. I pulled out a keychain.

"Interesting."

"What is it?"

"It's the logo for a company in the game."

I started coughing again. I scramble to find a cough drop. I found one then opened it and put it in my mouth.

"You okay?"

I shook my head.

"Here. Let me put the game in for you so it can at least download while you sleep."

Tears started to form.

Am I...crying?

I started wiping tears away.

"Devy? What's wrong? You're crying."

"I-I'm just really happy. N-no one's done something this nice for me."

She started hugging me."

I finished pulling everything else out of the box. I took out the steelbook case. I opened it.

"Here. I'll go put it in now."

"D-do you know how to?"

"I'll figure it out."

I turned on my gaming console. She grabbed the case and went up to the console. She took the disc out and replaced it with the new game.

"Alright. When's that gonna be ready?"

"Few hours."

She took her phone out of her pocket.

"Fuck. I gotta go."

She walked over to me and took off the mask. She kissed my forehead then put the mask back on.
