Episode 5a: Smile!

Episode description: Dillon, Ryouta, Kouji, Tsubasa, and Chika each mount an unsuccessful attempt to challenge the history of never seeing Kazumi laughing.

It's a warm day at school. Ryouta, Kouji, and Tsubasa were having a little staring contest with each other making funny faces to try and make themselves laugh. Dillon was judging the battle, trying not to laugh, but lost it at the same time as Kouji and Tsubasa, as the three of them laughed.

"Yeah!" Ryouta said, happily.

"Ryouta wins!" Dillon said.

"Good morning!" Yuki said, coming in.

"Good morning, Yuki-chan." Haruka greeted.

"Today's weather is pretty warm, isn't it?" Yuki said, as Aihara came in.

"It's hot!" Haruka said.

Aihara said down at her desk as she got her stuff ready for class.

"Hey." Ryouta said, getting the others' attention. "Have you guys ever seen Aihara laugh?"

Kouji, Tsubasa, and Dillon turned their heads to look over at Aihara who was setting her mechanical pencil up. Everyone turned back to each other as Kouji spoke.

"Come to think of it, no." Kouji said.

"Come to think of it, me neither." Tsubasa said.

"Yeah, me neither." Dillon said. "And I've only been here for like a couple weeks."

"We've always been in the same class, but..." Kouji said, as he soon realized. "Wouldn't Chika-chan have? They've known each other for such a long time."

The guys turned to Chika who was fanning herself with a couple sheets of paper trying to cool off.

"Hey, Chika." Ryouta said, getting her attention.

"Yeah?" Chika said, still fanning herself.

"Has Aihara ever laughed?" Ryouta asked.

Chika was unsure about what Ryouta had asked her. She turned to Aihara who was lining her pens up on her desk. Chika went back to fanning herself as she spoke.

"Of course she has." Chika said, but then realized Aihara hasn't ever smiled around her. "Huh? I wonder if she has..."

"Aye yai. Did you turn stupid from the heat?" Ryouta said, amused.

"I won't be as stupid as you, so it's okay." Chika said, as Ryouta felt himself daggered with stupidity.

"You can kill someone when you call them stupid like that." Ryouta said, in anger.

"Huh. So, I guess we're all in agreement. None of us have ever seen Aihara laugh. Or even smile a little." Dillon said.

"I know!" Tsubasa said. "Why don't we try making her laugh?"

"Sounds interesting!" Ryouta said.

"Good idea, Tsubasa." Dillon said.

"But, how can we make her laugh?" Kouji wondered.

"You're right..." Tsubasa said. "What about a staring contest? Just like how we did ours."

"Oh, yeah. I'll go first." Ryouta said.

"Alright, then." Dillon said.

Aihara traced her finger along the lines of her wood top desk. Ryouta came up to Aihara as he began his attempt to make her laugh.
