Episode 8a: Scale

Episode description: Megumi stares at her uneaten lunch one day due to worries about her own weight. Out of concern, Ryōuta investigates and discovers that the scale in the nurse's office is improperly calibrated.

'This episode will not have a ranger fight. So instead, I'll put in two fights in Episode 9. Enjoy.'

It was lunchtime at school. Everyone was chatting while enjoying lunch.

"I finally bought a wooden noodle box!" Kouji said.

"I bought one too!" Ryouta said. "Let's trade ours tonight."

At a different table, Megumi was a bit picky with what she should eat first. She was a bit nervous about something. Today's school lunch included stew, a red bean paste bread, mashed potatoes, a small carton of milk for a drink, and a pudding cup for desert. Megumi sighed stressfully as she put her spoon down on her tray. Haruka saw Megumi wasn't going to eat, as she yelped nervously.

"Megumi-chan, you're not going to eat your lunch?" Haruka asked.

"Um..." Megumi said, with a nervous smile.

Ryouta and Kouji overheard this as they rushed over. Dillon was a bit confused as he took a bite of his red bean paste bread.

"I-If you're not going to eat it..." Ryouta and Kouji said.

Ryouta grabbed the bread from Megumi's tray.

"I, the Hyena of Class 5-2, will take responsibility for it!" Ryouta said.

"Then I'll take the pudding cup!" Kouji said.

"W-Wait!" Megumi said, standing up.

"You have given up your spoon!" Ryouta said.

"I consider it as you forfeiting your food!" Kouji said.

"Guys, knock it off!" Dillon said. "It's obvious Megumi is having a hard time trying to eat."

Megumi was quiet for a moment before she spoke up.

"Dillon's right. Go ahead." Megumi said. "Go ahead, since I don't want to eat it."

Ryouta and Kouji got nervous as Dillon was confused.

"What's with those words?!" Ryouta said. "A combination of agepan and pudding is extremely rare!"

"Yeah! They're just like Orihime and Hikoboshi!" Kouji said.

'Orihime and Hikoboshi are the respective names of the two lovers in the story from which the holiday Tanabata is based on.'

"Guys!" Dillon said, annoyed.

"What's with you two, acting so big?" Megumi said, amused. "I just don't want to eat right now!"

Megumi left the classroom with what was left on her tray leaving the other students shocked. Ryouta was confused on why she was acting like this. Dillon wondered too.

"I'm gonna go talk to her." Dillon said, as he finished eating and got up.

(Later that day...)

After lunch Ryouta went to ask Yuki about why Megumi didn't eat her lunch today.

"Oh, about that?" Yuki said. "Megumi-chan's conscious about her weight."

"She's letting the cat out of the bag." Aihara thought while looking at Yuki annoyed.

"Her weight?" Ryouta said, confused.

"Seems like she found out her weight increased after measuring herself during recess." Yuki explained.
