Sasuke spent most of the day hiding up in his room, he would never call it that but that's how Itachi described it. When night time rolled around, dinner was made, Itachi opted to texting Sasuke that food was ready rather than walk upstairs only to be ignored by the arrogant teen. Of course there was no response made through text, instead Sasuke made his appearance in the kitchen while the older of the two was making their plates. It was obvious that there was more food than needed for just the brothers. "Did you message Naruto and ask if he was coming for dinner?" Itachi asked with his back turned to his little brother. Sasuke sat as his usual seat at the table, pulling out his phone and scrolling through his feed."No." He responded shortly with a cold tone as he normally does. The older man placed the two plates on the table before sitting across from him. "How come?" Itachi asked knowing he was pushing further than he should, but he couldn't help but wonder. There was more questions then there was answers and if he was being honest with himself he was being rather nosey. "I don't have his number." Sasuke retorted while picking up his fork and carelessly stabbing the green beans on his plate.
"Here," Itachi started pulling his phone out, "I have it, take it and apologize for not inviting him sooner." He quickly brought up Naruto's contact information that he took down the day of his hiring, considering he is the manager, he'd need his phone number to at least contact him in case he needed him. Sasuke didn't question him how he had the blondes number since it was obvious but that doesn't mean he would be willing to text the guy. However, instead of arguing with his brother, he placed his phone down onto the table and slid it over to Itachi, who which didn't hesitate to take the phone and punch in his number.
Before Sasuke even knew it there was a ringing sound coming through his phone on speaker, loud enough that it took over the silence in the room. "Wait what are you doing?!" Sasuke yelled out putting his fork down and looking at his brother with utter shock. "Calling him so I know he has your number." The younger Uchiha couldn't believe it, he assumed Itachi would only add it in his contacts and tell him to text him, not call the idiot then and there. The phone rang only three times before it clicked over.
"Hello?"
Itachi immediately handed the phone over to Sasuke who was absolutely NOT expecting that. His stomach made a complete flip as soon as he grabbed the phone not realizing how on the spot he was.
"H-Hey its Sasuke."
His stomach couldn't have been more upset, his heart started pulsating from the sound of Naruto's voice over the phone. He never called anyone let alone the Uzumaki.
"Oh, hey...what's up?"
All the mean while on Naruto's end, he about chucked his phone when he realized who was on the other end of the phone. He couldn't help but feel nervous, almost like he just got hit with a pop quiz.
"My brother wanted to know if you were coming over for dinner."
Sasuke kept it short, naturally he blamed his brother for the call. He eyed him from across the table as he said that, shaking his head side to side.
"I completely forgot and made plans with Sakura! I'm sorry I should have called him."
Naruto's heart was racing, he quickly came up with an excuse to get out of the mess that he got himself into. In reality he was sitting at home in his living room when he received the phone call. Absolutely no plans with Sakura.
"Okay, I'll tell him."
Sasuke didn't wait for a response before he hit the end button and placed his phone down once again. His eyes met with his brothers. Itachi didn't want to hear the bitching from him, so he began eating his now some what cold food. As did Sasuke, they hadn't brought up the topic the rest of the night. Which was exactly what Sasuke told Itachi with his eyes. No words were needed to know he didn't want to bring this up again.
Deep down Itachi was pleased with himself, proud that he was able to make an even bigger impact on this situation than Sasuke would like to admit. He knew this opened a can of worms but he didn't mind since he was only intending to help his little brother in realizing who he truly is.
It was late at night and Naruto felt bad for lying about making plans. He knew it wasn't the best cover up but he couldn't say that he had been waiting for some kind of call or text message from one of the Uchiha's, let alone tell them he was wanting to come over. It was nice eating around a table and Itachi had this vibe to him that was more then comforting. Something that made Naruto feel welcomed and warm inside. Something he doesn't feel while eating alone. But Sasuke made the feeling a little different, one that he didn't understand. One he wasn't familiar with at all and that scared him. One he felt wasn't normal. Which ultimately led him to making up some stupid lie. One that he regretted.
He had been laying in his bed with his phone in hands raised above his face, staring at the message he had began writing to Sasuke, whose number he had saved in his phone after their call earlier.
12:13AM— Naruto: Sorry about dinner...
He contemplated for maybe longer than he should have before hitting send. He quickly locked his phone and slammed down onto his chest before taking a deep breath and letting it out shakily. His nerves were run wild. He didn't need to apologize, nor did he need to explain himself but there was something about having a way to say something to Sasuke without being directly in front of him that seemed easier. He knew if he didn't say something, Monday would be awkward at work.
What Naruto didn't know was Sasuke was also contemplating messaging the blonde and interrogating him as to why he lied about having plans with Sakura. Sasuke had texted her asking what she was doing that night, and she made it very clear that she was openly free. He hadn't been looking to hang out, he was curious to know whether or not the blonde was being honest or coming up with a bullshit excuse. Which in this case his gut was right. When his phone dinged and popped up a message on the screen where he was currently writing a text, his stomach dropped.
His eyes read over the text more than a couple of times. His body started to feel light, as if the blood in his body just turned to water. He wasn't exactly sure why seeing the message made him feel so weird but nonetheless he responded.
12:15AM— Sasuke: It's fine...next time don't lie. It's not very friendly...
Naruto's brain started going turmoil. It only took him a minute to realize that he must have messaged Sakura. He couldn't believe that he went as far as checking up to see what he was really doing. His thumbs started shaking from anxiety after seeing he was caught red handed.
12:19AM— Naruto: Right...I'm sorry..
12:20AM— Naruto: Next time! Okay?Sasuke only smirked when he saw the apology, he found it quite entertaining knowing the blonde was probably rustled by the fact he knew from the get go. He slowly turned to his side before responding somewhat risky.
12:23AM— Sasuke: Good. Next Saturday it is. See you Monday Dobe.
Sasuke put his phone down near his pillow, but not long enough to close his eyes and sleep. He received another text, his phone vibrated the bed.
12:25AM— Naruto: Yeah...Goodnight Teme! :P
Naruto slammed his phone onto the nightstand next to him before flipping over in his bed and grabbing an extra pillow, forcing it between his legs and chest. He squeezed it while burrowing his face into it. His heart never stopped racing and after his last message he couldn't bare to see a response if there was one.
Sasuke only chuckled to himself when reading the message. He decided it was best to just go to bed and leave their conversation at that. After plugging in his phone he rolled over to his left side and made his attempt to go to sleep.
For the two of them it was difficult to go to sleep when they were thinking about each other. Successfully they both went to bed well after one on the morning. Sleep that was well needed for both of them.
