Midnight's POV
Three months had passed since we decided to move into a condo unit here in New Zealand. In those three months he never failed to make me feel his love for me. Every morning he cooks our breakfast and prepares our lunch that we will bring to the office. I knew him better in those days and I fell in love more with his soul. He never made me feel jealous of his colleagues and when he was asked to go to parties he would be at our condo before midnight. Hindi siya inaabot ng madaling araw sa labas at hindi rin siya umuuwing lasing o amoy alak.
Kahit abala ako sa project ko rito sa New Zealand ay tumatanggap pa rin naman ako ng projects from Switzerland para may continuous income pa rin ako. Hindi na nga lang katulad dati na ako ang head architect sa mga projects. After finishing the reports I needed I decided to text Astro. Baka mamaya nalibang na naman 'yon kakatrabaho at hindi na makakain ng lunch. Dumiretso na ako sa office niya dahil nasa kaniya ang lunch namin. Dinatnan ko siyang nagtatrabaho.
"Di ba I texted you na? Bakit nag-wo-work ka pa?" I said.
"I'm sorry, Mako. I just finished closing some deals with my business partner," sagot niya.
"Okay. I'll just microwave our food in your pantry," sagot ko.
Kinuha ko na sa pantry ang pagkain namin at hinanda ito. He fixed his center table in the lounge in his office. After fixing our food on the table I decided to sit on the bigger sofa. He sat on the small one person sofa in front of me. Nilagyan niya ng kanin at ulam ang plato ko. When he glanced at me he smiled.
"Let's eat!" he said.
I uttered a short prayer before eating. Habang kumakain ay napansin kong patingin-tingin siya sa akin na para bang may gusto siyang sabihin sa akin.
"What do you want to tell me?" I asked.
Inunahan ko na siya kasi baka hindi niya lang alam paano ito sasabihin sa akin.
"So I have this thought of going home to the Philippines next week... Is it fine if you'll go with me?" he answered.
"Okay," I answered and had a bite of the broccoli on my fork.
"Really?" he replied happily.
'"Yeah, I'll just file my leave in the company I am working at then we're all set," sagot ko.
"I already fixed it. Tumawag na ako sa kanila para hindi ka na ma-hassle," sagot niya.
"Everything's set na pala eh! Hindi mo man lang sinabi!" sagot ko.
"Syempre it's a surprise!" sagot niya.
Pagkatapos naming kumain ng lunch ay bumalik na kami sa trabaho. Wala na akong masyadong gagawin kaya kinuha ko na lang ang sketch pad ko at nag-sketch ng portrait ni Astro. I still don't know when I can show this to him but I want to finish it first. Abala ako sa pag-drawing ng tumunog ang phone ko.
Mom calling...
Hininto ko muna ang ginagawa ko at sinagot ang tawag. I looked at the wall clock in my office. It is already 1 pm so it is past six in the Philippines. For sure they're having dinner.
"Hello, Misha! Astro told us that you will be here next week!" she excitedly said.
"Yes, Mom! He'll be with me," sagot ko.
"Oh sige! Ang pasalubong namin ng dad mo ah? Alam mo namang gusto na namin ng apo," sagot niya.
Natawa naman ako sa sinabi niya. "Mom hindi ko pa naman sinasagot si Astro para hingan niyo kami ng apo. Darating rin tayo diyan!" I answered.
Sabik na sabik na nga silang magkaapo dahil tumatanda na raw sila't malapit na nga raw mawala sa kalendaryo ang edad ko. Tinatawanan ko na lang sila lagi kapag inaasar nila ako tungkol sa pagkakaroon ng anak.
