You walked into the lunchroom that day and saw a bouquet of flowers at your usual seat.
"Um..." You said slowly. "Are these someone's flowers?" You asked as you looked around the room.
A bunch of people shook their heads.
You didn't know what to do, so you just stood there.
"They're for you" Daiki said from his seat beside yours.
You looked at him awkwardly. "Why?"
"Because tomorrow's Valentine's day, and I was hoping you'd be my Valentine?"
Keigo got into the lunchroom just then and chuckled when he saw the flowers at your spot. "Who gave you those this year? Don't people ever learn?"
Daiki looked at him. "What?"
Keigo stopped laughing and nodded his head. "Ohhh, it was you!" Then he bursted out laughing again. "This happened last year too! Y/n's allergic to pollen! Like really bad! You should see her when the cherry blossoms bloom!"
You used the inside of your elbow to cover your nose and mouth as you started sneezing. It was just a couple at first. At first...
"I'm sorry!" Daiki said quickly, he grabbed the flowers and moved them away from your seat. "I didn't know..."
"It's-" You sneezed again. "It's-" Another sneeze. "God fucking-" You kept sneezing. "It's okay!" You finally managed to get out.
You started rubbing at your eyes because they began itching, of course you knew it wouldn't help, but it felt so good to rub them in the moment.
"I gotta-" You kept sneezing throughout your sentences. "I gotta go-"
You turned away and left the lunchroom, going towards the bathroom so you could dig through your backpack for some allergy medicine that also probably wouldn't help as much as you'd like it too.
Keigo kept laughing even after you had left.
He wiped a tear from his eye. "Aw man! Someone should've warned you!"
Hana walked into the lunchroom and saw the flowers that Daiki was holding away from your seat. "So you tried to kill Y/n this year? Wasn't expecting that"
"I didn't know she was allergic" Daiki mumbled quietly in his defense.
Keigo was still laughing. He grabbed Hana by her arm and shook her a bit. "She kept sneezing! And she kept trying to talk!- But she kept sneezing!"
Daiki frowned. He felt bad.
"I'm so glad you find this funny" Hana said sarcastically to Keigo. Then she turned to Daiki. "Don't worry about it, she won't be mad at you, you couldn't have known"
Meanwhile in the bathroom, somehow your allergies had only gotten worse in a matter of seconds. Your eyes were so teary and itchy that they were hurting. And to make matters worse, you didn't have any allergy medicine your bag like you thought you did.
It ended up being so bad that you had to have your parents pick you up early. Which they didn't want to do because then you'd be missing part of school, and you didn't want to do either. But you had to do what you had to do.

"So what happened?" Your mom asked from the passenge's seat on the way home. "Someone brought flowers in for Valentine's day?"
You nodded your head and sneezed again. "I wish my allergies weren't so bad"
Your dad hummed. "This happened last year too, you didn't bring any allergy medicine?"
"I thought I did but I must've forgot it..." You mumbled.
"Remember for next year" Your mom said and your dad nodded in agreement. "You're missing school because of this"
"I know" You said quietly.
A few hours after you got home your sneezing finally died down and your eyes stopped itching so bad. The doorbell rang and your mom went to answer it while you stayed studying at the kitchen table to make up for the lessons your were missing.
Your mom came into the kitchen and put a big edible arrangement on the table that was wrapped in plastic and had a fake red rose attached. (edible arrangements r those baskets of fruit that r cut out and put on skewers to look all pretty)
Your mom was holding the card that was attached and reading it to herself. After she finished reading she let go of the card and put her hands on her hips. "This is for you"
"Me?!" You asked.
Oh no.
You tilted the card towards you and read it to yourself.
Sorry for almost killing you with the flowers earlier. I hope you're not allergic to fruit. -Daiki
You couldn't help but smile at the card. It was so sweet of him.
"The flowers that sent you home were for you?" Your mom asked as she picked up one of the pineapple pieces by the skewer and bit into it. "You didn't tell us that"
You half shrugged your shoulders, unsure if you should. "I didn't think it was important"
Your mom called for your dad to come into the kitchen and pointed at the edible arrangement. "Look at this"
Your dad came over and stared at it. "I didn't order that..."
"I know you didn't" Your mom said. "Daiki did. For our daughter."
"Who's Daiki?" Your dad asked as he went over and started reading the card.
"I don't know" Your mom said with a shrug. She turned to you. "Who's Daiki?"
"He's a new kid at school" You said quietly. "He just transferred"
"And he's already giving you flowers and fruit?" Your mom asked.
You didn't know what to say to that. "I guess so?"
"School first." Your dad said as he took a skewer of fruit. "Then college, then job, then boys."
You nodded your head.
Both your parents left the kitchen after taking another skewer of fruit each.
You looked at the card again and smiled to yourself. Then you picked up a skewer with your favorite fruit on it and took a bite. Then you pulled out your phone and quickly texted Daiki.
Y/n

The next day, Valentine's day, when you got into your math class and saw Daiki, you told him you'd be his valentine.
And that's what started everything.
