"I'll tie it" Haru said, spinning Scarlett around by her shoulders.
He was wearing a small apron that he had already tied behind his back, now he was helping Scarlett with hers.
He finished tying it and clapped his hands. "Okay! We can cook now!"
Scarlett turned towards the play kitchen and so did Haru.
"What are we making?" Haru asked.
"Sanwick" Scarlett answered as she grabbed two pieces of fake bread.
Haru gasped and grabbed a fake tomato and knife. "Sandwiches are good!"
Scarlett nodded her head while Haru started to 'cut' the tomato. It was a bunch of small pieces velcro-ed together so it was pretty easy.
Scarlett grabbed the fake cheese and slapped it on the bread.
"I know a cat named Cheese" Haru said with a smile.
"Cat" Scarlett repeated. "Meow"
"Meow" Haru said back, because that was the sound a cat makes.
Scarlett clapped her hands while Haru put the tomato slices on top of the cheese. Then she grabbed the other piece of bread and slapped it on top of the sandwich.
She picked it up and held it up to Haru's mouth, humming because it was such a yummy sandwich.
"Mmm" Haru hummed, rubbing his belly and pretending to bite the sandwich.
Then he took the sandwich and held it up to Scarlett's mouth for her to try, only she actually bit it.
"Scarlett!" Haru said with a giggle. "It's not real!"
Scarlett giggled back and Haru wiped the sandwich on his apron.
"Haru!" One of the worker's called over to him.
Haru looked over at her.
"It's time to go home!" She said.
"Mommy's here!" Haru said excitedly, quickly untying his apron from behind his back.
He handed Scarlett the fake sandwich and waved. "Bye Scarlett, my mommy's here!"
Scarlett waved back and then put the fake sandwich back in her mouth. "Bye-bye"
Haru ran over to the worker and she handed him his little backpack. They left the toddler room together and started walking to the pick-up area.
Haru was scanning the small crowd of parents for you, but he didn't see you.
When he saw Daiki coming towards him he held tightly onto the worker's hand and felt like there was a hole in his stomach.
"My mommy said she was gonna pick me up" Haru said quickly.
"It looks like your dad came instead" The worker said.
Daiki came over and thanked the worker. Haru tried to move behind her leg but Daiki quickly picked him up.
"No-" Haru said, trying to turn in Daiki's arms to reach for the worker, but Daiki held him tightly and close to him.
"Thank you!" Daiki said loudly so that the workers couldn't hear Haru repeatedly saying 'no'.
He quickly walked out of the daycare taking big steps and holding Haru close to him so that people couldn't see that he was already crying.
Daiki got to his truck and opened the back door, trying to put Haru in his old car seat.
