51. Hungry

You woke up when you felt someone pet your cheek. You opened your eyes and saw Haru laying next to you, he was the one petting your cheek and was whispering 'mommy?' softly.

"Mhm?" You hummed.

"I'm hungry" Haru whispered.

You took a moment to stretch your arms above your head before looking at the alarm clock on the nightstand. It was the middle of the night, around 2 am.

"Wanna go get a snack and then come back to bed?" You asked as you put your hand on Haru's back and started rubbing it.

He nodded his head.

"Okay" You said as you sat up.

You opened your arms for Haru so he came and sat in your lap, then you scooted over to the edge of the bed and stood up with him.

Cheese was asleep on the bed so she stayed while you two went downstairs.

"Do you want a piece of fruit?" You asked as you walked into the kitchen and turned the lights on.

You had to squint your eyes because the light was so bright and you were so tired.

Haru nodded his head.

You brought him over to the fruit bowl on the counter so he could pick out what he wanted. He grabbed three things and struggled to hold them all at once, an apple, a banana, and an orange.

"You're gonna eat three pieces?" You asked him, not believing that he'd finish it all.

He nodded his head.

"Okay" You said as you went and sat at the kitchen table. "But let's have one at a time just in case"

Haru sat on your lap while you peeled his orange for him since that was the one he wanted first. You pulled the pieces apart from each other and handed each one to him, making sure to pull as much of the white stuff off as possible cause he didn't like it.

Haru quietly said 'thank you' each time you handed him a piece before eating it. And with the last piece, he put it in his mouth and smiled at you with it, giving him an orange smile. You smiled back at him and patted his head.

Once he had eaten the whole fruit, you expected him to say he was full, but instead he reached for the banana.

You started to peel it for him and then gave it to him to hold while he ate it. He'd always leave the last bite since he didn't want to bite too close to the end, so when he was done you ate the last bite then set the peel aside.

"All good?" You asked him as you tilted your head over his shoulder.

Haru pointed at the apple he had picked out. "Apple"

"You're hungry tonight, huh?" You asked.

You bit into the apple to get it started for him, then handed it to him so he could easily eat the rest.

After Haru finished the apple, he said he was ready to go back to bed so you stood up with him again. Again, you noticed that he weighed more than usual.

"You're getting to be a big boy" You said as you adjusted him in your arms.

Haru nodded his head. "I am a big boy"

You smiled at him and kissed his cheek as you carried him upstairs. You went back into the bedroom where Cheese was still laying and climbed back into bed.

"Goodnight, mommy" Haru whispered as he held your face with both hands and gave you a kiss.

"Goodnight, baby" You said back.
