Entry twenty: Don't Think I Can't Love You

Entry twenty:

Don’t Think I Can’t Love You. I’ve thought about it a lot over the past few days. Thank you for your advice, it did help a little bit. I had a conversation with the voices about it today. It went a little along the lines of:

Sammi: So what do you guys think about this whole thing with Gavin?

Sadie: You mean that he’s a bisexual?

Sammi: Yeah, that…

Marny: I don’t see anything wrong with it. People are people no matter what their preferences in life. I don’t think we should treat them -

Sadie: Or him

Marny: any differently.

Jamie: I disagree with the girlies. He’s being completely selfish. You either like women or you leave us alone and hang out with all the other rainbow men. You can’t have it both ways.

Sammi: Jamie! Even I think that’s a little harsh.

Jamie: Well you wanted my opinion and that’s what it is.

Sadie: God Jamie, you don’t have to be such a prick about it.

Sammi: Sadie, don’t use the Lord’s name in vain.

Sadie: Oh grow up Sammi, it’s time to leave the Sunday school stories behind and join the real world.

Marny: Sadie, you have no right to bash our religion, just like Jamie has no right to criticise they way some people are.

Sammi: Thanks Marny. But I’m still confused…

Three voices simultaneously yelling in my head: “It doesn’t change a thing!” “He’s still hot” “He should go back to his own people.” “He’s so nice!” “He is a selfish boy who is a detriment to society.” “Gavin is a great person and it shouldn’t make a difference if he can comment on how good looking other guys are.”

Sammi: ENOUGH! Forget I even asked.

So as you can see, though I’m still a little bewildered by the situation, Jamie’s comments made me realize how horribly prejudiced the Catholic views can be, and I’m going to do my best to get past this mental roadblock.
