Entry twenty one:

We’re Off To See The Wizard. Today I went out with Kaaleb for a girls’ day out. We rode our bikes out to the suburbs and somehow ended up onYellow Brick Roadafter spending five minutes being fascinated byJames Potter Road. Did you know we had such awesome streets in the area? Because it’s news to me.

We decided there was no way we couldn’t skip down this road so we secured our bikes outside a Home Hardware store. As we left, she quickly skipped back to her bike and pulled out her pet chinchilla from the homemade basket (not that you don’t know any of this). I found it hilarious that Kaaleb called her pet chinchilla Toad-o. Apparently the “o” was tagged on after she started noticing people’s reactions to it being called Toad.

I still laugh a little when I think how we must have looked skipping side by side with Toad-o in the crook of her arm singing “We're off to see the Wizard, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. You'll find he is a whiz of a Wiz! If ever a Wiz! There was. If ever oh ever a Wiz! There was The Wizard of Oz is one because, because, because, because, because, because. Because of the wonderful things he does. We're off to see the Wizard. The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”. I wish we’d gotten that on video.

But moving on, once we were done goofing off we did talk seriously. She asked me how you felt about her, and I hope I didn’t embarrass you or lie, but I told her you really seemed to like her. I also mentioned how she’s the first person I’ve ever really met that you’re so comfortable with besides me.

When I said that she kind of seemed to stiffen and looked at me with an ‘evil eye’ expression. In order to save both our skins I quickly assured her that you’re not my type and just kept walking. Her response was unnecessarily cruel, “Oh that’s right, you prefer boys who are unsure of their own identities. Well I’m sorry to inform you, I kind of already helped Dexter find himself, so I guess he’s not worthy of your feelings anymore huh?”

“Ouch. What did I do to deserve that?” I asked hurt.

“You turned Dexter down, and instead started going out with that cream puff.” She scoffed.

“Hey. First of all, he isn’t a cream puff, whatever that's supposed to mean - unless you're saying he's sweet which I really don't think you are. Secondly, Dexter didn’t tell me he was interested until after Gavin and I started going out, and by then you were around anyway.” I defended.

“Well I’ll stop ruining this otherwise lovely walk for now, but don’t think I’ve forgotten what you did to him.” She threatened.

Which makes me want to ask you two things: Most importantly, are you okay? Because Kaaleb’s making you out to be some heartbroken teenager who can’t handle another relationship, which is not the Dexter I’m interacting with on a day to day basis. My second question would then be what is wrong with your girlfriend/girl friend? Whether the relationship is romantic or not she has no right to attack me or Gavin, not to mention insulting our friendship. Is she bipolar or something? I promise I wouldn’t judge if she was. I’m sorry to have to say though that I had trouble getting back into our previous mood on our walk after that.

Apparently she’s a very good actor because by the time we reached the end of the street she was acting like nothing had happened. She enthusiastically read the jeweller’s sign that cleverly said “EmeraldCity”.

It was at about this point that the little man appeared claiming to be the sphinx. In order to pass he made us answer the riddle “If you like pretty gems that sparkle and shine, I invite you to dig in my virtual mine. My first is purple, fit for a king, My second is green where Dorothy did her thing. My third is red, July's birthstone as well, My fourth is seen in strings and is found inside a shell. My fifth is hard, pure Carbon and expensive to buy, My sixth is Crocodolite, striped like the big cat's eye. Seventh is two words, a man - made fake of April's stone, Eighth is very dark and found at Lightning Ridge alone. Now take from each gem, one letter in its turn, And you will find the stuff for which even the god's yearn.”

Eventually we ended up with the answer of “Ambrosia. The gems were: Amethyst, Emerald (Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz), Ruby, Pearl, Diamond, Tiger's eye, Cubic Zirconium (Fake diamond), Black Opal, Taking the first letter of Amethyst, second of Emerald, etc.. gives Ambrosia - The food of the gods.” And that is how we followed the Yellow Brick Road down to the Emerald City with Toad-o as a companion and met a sphinx. I just wish that argument or conversation, or whatever you want to call it hadn’t ruined our day.

Sadie wants me to punch Kaaleb in the face the next time I see her and for once Jamie agrees with her, but luckily for me, as much as Marny loves a bit of drama, she seems to be more concerned with my well being and is helping me out with the peace keeping. This day has tired me out. I think I’m going to go to bed now.
