When Wednesday finally got told that she could start heading back to school, she couldn't have been happier. Though she loved her family they still could be annoying at times. Now that she didn't need to do anymore treatment she could focus more on her school work. This will enable her to catch up with the others back at Nevermore.

Luckily since Enid's on Christmas break she can help her with her school work.

She desperately wanted to catch up with the rest of her classmates, but Enid and her parents thought she was rushing a bit. However they wouldn't say anything knowing they would be met with complete denial.

Both girls stayed up in Wednesday's room as a place to study since everywhere they turned, something or someone was there. It was quite chilly outside so that was not an option. They sat side-by-side at her desk with textbooks Enid had brought. They both studied for the next test they would be having when they got back from the Christmas break.

With her notebook infront of her for atleast thirty minutes nothing but two words were written from her random sparks of energy. She found herself struggling with paying attention. This was the first time in a while where she had to actually sit down and put her full attention to something. She looked over at Enid and saw almost a full page of notes already. Why was this so hard for her to do?

She tried her hardest to focus on the words that were written on the page, but she found herself multiple times losing focus and just staring blankly at the page without actually gathering any information.

She forced herself to focus, but she started to feel dizzy at how much effort she was putting in.

"Okay let's quiz each other" Enid said after they took a brief break to stop and have lunch

Enid turned to the last page and read one of the practice questions.

"Do plant cells have cell walls?"

Enid glanced over at her expectingly knowing she was the smarter one of the two. But she could feel her heart wince at her forgetfulness. She looked and looked through her brain trying to remember but it's like everything got erased. No trace of it was left.

"I can't remember" she said frowning

"Hey its okay want to try another one?" Enid said trying to hide her concern

"Yes" she mumbled, her eyes now full of anger

Her eyes scanned the page to find a question that was easier to answer than the other.

"What does the cell membrane do?"

In silence, Enid's question was answered until Wednesday took out a lit candle and placed the textbook in it. Angrily, she threw it out the window after setting it ablaze.

As Enid was shocked by her sudden outburst, she turned to the back that now faced her.

"Don't worry it won't be like this forever" she said trying to calm her down. "It's been what... two or three weeks since your chemo ended? It's not bad if you need a little more time. Everyone learns at their own pace. For example Kent, it took him one whole month to learn how to control his voice from sounding squeaky. And I still don't even know how to do long division."

"Cancer has already taken as much of my life!" Wednesday growled in frustration

Enid walked over to the window and handed her the other textbook she had been using.

Without looking over at her she took the textbook, set it on fire and threw it out the window. It landed in one of Pugsley's holes that he dug up.

"Feel any better?" Enid asked her

"A little" she mumbled. "Thank you."

"Maybe we could stop studying now, we've done enough for today" Enid suggested. "We could do something instead...perhaps a movie?"

"No I have to be able to do this. School will be starting in just a couple of days and I have to be in the same area as everyone else" she insisted.

After a while she stopped studying since she felt like she had memorized it enough. Instead, she decided to write one of the English papers she had to turn in. She grabbed a piece of paper and put it on her typewriter where her keys were now dusty. That was a first. Her fingers hovered over the keys as she tried her hardest to focus. A few minutes later and all she had was a line of words. She was tired from just studying and now with this she was now exhausted. She was seeing double and her head felt like it was hit with a sludge hammer.

She walked over to her bed where she flopped down onto it, falling asleep immediately.

The next day in the afternoon, Wednesday woke up from a nap on the couch beside Enid who was on the phone with Yoko.

Her mom noticed she was awake and walked over to her and sat down beside her on the couch.

"All this studying is doing something to you huh?" her mom asked her

With a grumpy look on her face, she hid under her blanket, refusing to answer.

"Upon researching possible side effects, I found that you are losing your memory and concentration due to the medication you have been taking. But don't feel sorry about it, you're still a brilliant little raven."

"I don't feel very bright" she mumbled

"I know, but I don't want you to be pushing yourself too much. You shouldn't be making yourself work so hard after just completing your chemo. You still need time for your body to completely heal. If it takes you this much energy to be doing some things I don't want you to be doing them for now at least. It's okay to take things slow, I don't want you to be burnt out" her mom said.

"How am I supposed to be taking things slow when school starts in just a couple of days? Nobody will be taking anything slow" she muttered.

"You won't be getting back on track overnight, you still need time to fully rest. Nobody in your school has had cancer for the whole year dear"

"I know" she frowned

"That's why your father and I think since you have a scan next week that you could stay here since it would be necessary to return home after a week at Nevermore to have the scan. That would give you an extra week to recover."

In the same way as when she saw her room in Nevermore for the first time, Wednesday looked at her mom with a similar expression.

"What no! I want to get my life back, I can't stay here any longer"

Her mom sighed

"Tell me honestly Wednesday, do you think you are able to get back and be a full time student, committing to classes for seven hours straight with no nap times or breaks?"

"No." She muttered

"So what do you say? It's just one more extra week and then you can go back to having your life"

"Fine" she said before moving over to rest her head on Enid's lap.
